Crossing a frozen pond in the backcountry can be dangerous — but with the right systems, the risk can be managed. In this clip from our Baker’s Brook expedition in Newfoundland, Steve explains how we assess changing conditions while skiing across the ice — checking thickness every few feet and using techniques that reduce both the chances of breaking through and the consequences if it happens. Come oggi.
