Trash on a boat is a daily occurrence! When we buy groceries we try to remove and leave as much packaging on shore but trash inevitably accumulates. In each new harbor we have to find the spot where cruisers can deposit their trash. In some cases, like St Maarten, it’s free. In other countries, or ports, there are small fees. The one thing a cruiser should never do is bring trash to land and leave it for someone else to take care of. Instead…stop by your neighbors (even if you don’t know them yet) and tell them you’re doing a trash run and you’re happy to take theirs! It’s not the yacht. It’s the people. That’s why it feels like home. 🤍⚓️ I’ve watched it happen trip after trip. At first, it’s just a yacht. Clean. Neutral. Quiet. Then people arrive. Shoes kicked off. Bags dropped. Someone makes tea. Someone laughs too loud. Kids leave wet towels. Someone forgets a book on the table. Music starts playing. And slowly, the yacht changes. It fills with conversations, shared meals, silly moments, deep talks at sunset. People cooking together. Dancing a little. Sitting close when the sea gets quiet at night. Sometimes it’s a bit messy. Sometimes loud. Sometimes emotional. But that’s exactly when it stops feeling like a yacht…and starts feeling like home.
