Welcome to Naval Gazing at Camp David Shorts. In this gripping short, we're navigating the high seas and teaching you how to sail through stormy weather with confidence. Whether you're facing squalls, gales, or just a nasty chop, knowing how to handle your vessel can make the difference between a good sea tale and a mayday call. For those looking to delve deeper into the art of sailing in foul weather, we recommend the comprehensive guide "Heavy Weather Sailing" by Peter Bruce, Adlard Coles, 2021, and for strategies on staying safe, "Storm Tactics Handbook: Modern Methods of Heaving-to for Survival in Extreme Conditions" by Lin and Larry Pardey, Pardey Books, 2012. It is hard to think of a #yacht better known beyond the wider #yachting community than GIPSY MOTH IV, and that has continued to inspire generations of young #sailors more than fifty years after Sir Francis Chichester’s epic - then unimaginable - 1966-1967 single-handed, one-stop #voyage around the world with her. http://www.sandemanyachtcompany.co.uk/yacht/596/GIPSY%20MOTH%20IV Rescued in 2004 from 37 years out of her element, and rebuilt and restored in 2005 by her original builders - among the last #wooden #boat works performed by Camper & Nicholsons - GIPSY MOTH IV has subsequently circumnavigated again. For the trust that has owned her since 2010 it is now time to pass on this iconic and beautiful #yacht to a similar body or individual to spread or be inspired by Chichester’s spirit of challenge and #adventure. This video, taken by Patrick G in France and copied here with his permission shows his Strike 20 trimaran on its fourth sail. I quote from his email " we achieved 9 / 10 kt to windward, 16 kt broad reaching under gennaker ( 14.8knots over 500 m and 14.3 over a nautical mile) The Strike 20 has a simple dory shape plywood main hull and uses beach cat outriggers and rig. so it is an easy cheap way to build your own performance trimaran.
