Despite its name, the #FlyingGurnard does not actually fly in the air like a bird or insect. Its specialised pectoral fins are actually enlarged and resemble wings. These "wings" are brightly coloured and have intricate patterns, making them visually striking. When threatened or startled, the Flying Gurnard spreads its pectoral fins wide open, creating the illusion of flight as it glides through the #water. This display serves as a defence mechanism to intimidate potential predators and deter them from attacking. While it may not truly fly, the Flying Gurnard's unique adaptation allows it to move gracefully and swiftly #underwater.
