Checking expiration dates on key boating safety equipment is critical as you head back out on the water this year. While it's important to check expiration dates because its the law, ultimately doing this quick check is critical for the safety of you and your guests. For example, pyrotechnic flares expire 42 months after date of manufacture and have an expiration date stamped on them. Fire extinguishers now must be replaced at least every 12 years. And even automatic inflatable life jacket bobbins need to replaced regularly. One of the biggest upgrades cruisers make when upfitting their catamaran with lithium is to add an induction cooktop. In most cases the option is made to completely remove the propane system from the boat. I personally think the smarter play is to leave the propane system in place, and to have an induction cooktop that neatly fits over the factory propane stove. In the event you have an issue with either your battery system or your induction cooktop you have the ability to still cook off of the propane system.
