I wanted to show you exactly how a boat anchor behaves on the sea floor. I found a nice popular anchorage where the tide had gone out, exposing the same sandy bottom that the boats in the distance are anchoring in, so we can see exactly what is going on, without the sea being in the way. If you measure the distance from the bow roller to the seabed at high tide, and pay out at least five times that much chain, which is known as 5:1 scope, the anchor should untangle itself and reset in most situations. The J109 Going to Red was in a good position to leeward of the at the start of the Portaferry regatta 2025. It was a perfect day for sailing with the sun shinning on the river and close racing between all the boats. The redline racing team did not look back after leading on the main part of the lough increasing their lead at every mark to take the win in the the final race of the 2025 Narrows Season.
