Tom Burton (AUS) has won Olympic gold in the Men's One Person Dinghy after a tense pre-start battle with Tonci Stipanović (CRO). Even if Stipanović let gold slip from his grasp, he has still won Croatia's first ever medal in Olympic sailing. Sam Meech (NZL) took bronze. With the Australian being the only sailor who could threaten Croatian gold, Stipanović engaged Burton in an aggressive duel before the start. However the match racing tactic backfired as the Australian turned the tables on his rival, with Stipanović given a 360 degree penalty by the jury for failing to keep clear of Burton. Stipanović was a long way last off the start line and had to play catch-up during the race. Burton was near the back too, and Meech was looking to capitalise on the situation with the New Zealander threatening Australia for the silver. However, Burton moved through the fleet to finish third across the line while Stipanović never recovered from his bad start. Robert Scheidt (BRA) didn't manage to win a record sixth Olympic sailing medal in front his home crowd, but he still gave the spectators on Flamengo Beach something to cheer about as the Brazilian legend sailed across the finish in first place.

Giorno 145 - saluti salati Oggi è un altro giorno di saluti. Ci stiamo facendo il callo e devo dire che Andre è migliorato moltissimo rispetto a quando siamo partiti. Sta imparando a lasciare andare, che in queste occasioni potremmo definire “letteralmente”. D’altra parte lo stiamo facendo entrambi. Abbiamo vissuto giorni intensi, ricchi di scambi, di arricchimento, di discorsi più impegnati e altri divertenti. Abbiamo condiviso piani futuri, guardato chi eravamo ieri e chi vorremo essere domani. Giorni in cui tutto sembrava girare intorno al luogo in cui eravamo, mentre in realtà non è stata che la cornice di momenti preziosi che porteremo nel cuore. Adesso ricomincia per noi un periodo da soli. È come un respiro. Insieme. Da soli. Insieme. Da soli. Chi ha letto il diario dei giorni scorsi si ricorderà di una certa “altalena”. Tra pochi giorni saremo nuovamente in compagnia di altre persone e avremo modo di presentarvele quando sarà il momento. Oggi è per noi, stasera è per noi. Stasera torniamo ad abitare un luogo che, intendiamoci, amiamo moltissimo condividere con amici e parenti e che da stasera torna a essere solo nostro. Un luogo dove spolverare piccole abitudini. Preparare i pop corn per guardare un film sotto le stelle, svegliarci ascoltando il rumore del mare rimanendo a letto un minuto in più solo per assaporarlo fino in fondo. Tutte piccole cose che rendono bello lo stare insieme, pur senza dover necessariamente interagire. Perché alla fine è questo il tesoro di una relazione. Stare insieme mentre si sta da soli. Ritagliare dei propri spazi in cui l’altro può entrare quando se la sente, oppure non farlo. Va bene lo stesso. La porta comunque è sempre aperta. AC
