After crossing the Atlantic, we finally reached Cadiz, Spain — but with our starboard engine controls broken, docking turned into a high-stakes challenge. I had to throttle manually from the engine room while the captain shouted commands over a walkie-talkie. One wrong move, and it could have been a disaster. Peter Harburg’s 100 foot Reichel Pugh supermaxi Black Jack left McConaghy Boat’s shed in Gosford showing her modified hull and new features. It was a millimetre perfect de-shed with very tight tolerances and in windy conditions.
