We started our sailing journey in Anacortes, Washington where we bought our 2020 Salona44. It’s a hybrid with imbedded solar and a backup gen set. It runs on twin Oceanvolt servoprops. We're super excited to be a part of the @seakeepers research project mapping the ocean floor. We met the International Seakeepers Society at the Auckland Boat Show 2024 and when we heard about their various projects we asked if we could apply to join their research program of mapping the seafloor (which we did) and within a few days they sent us the logger and some other cool stuff free of charge. Whilst sailing New Zealand's northern coastline, we're completing some maintenance work on Tāiko and getting her ready to meet New Zealand’s category 1 requirements. Nearly sinking our Dinghy in a squall in Falmouth! Full bags of provisions and three people were too much for our 5HP Outboard. I was laughing here but seconds after this the engine died (duh) and we quickly needed to row against the wind barely making it back to the boat.
