The team on GTR Racing were hugging the shore to shelter from the on rushing tide, they pushed it a little to much and found the bottom which acted as an instant hand break. Luckily only the the skippers pride was hurt as they bounced off the bottom releasing the hand break allowing them to push on for a racing win. Salona 45 raced by the Irish Defence Force in the Beaufort Cup beating up the shore to stay out of the tide shortly after the start of the Harbour Race of Cork Week 2024. With over 100 boats on the start line everyone was fighting for air shortly after the start, with the tide coming in all day it paid to get right early to find both clear air and some relief from the stronger tide out in the main channel.
