El snuffer, que es como se conoce en inglés, es una ayuda súper importante en el izado y arriado de velas portantes tales como los spinnakers o spi y los gennakers, ya que las desventa. se tira de un cabo tira-vira y el calcetín baja introduciendo la vela dentro de sí mismo.
