The first day of NYYC Race Week presented by ROLEX is a tale of two extremes: the fast flying, modern multihull and GUNBOATcatamarans, and the sleek, classic, antique yachts. A Sunday afternoon sail turn into a whole world of hurt for the skipper on Go To Red. What was supposed to be a routine gybe turned in the a massive wipe out for the skipper as the main sheet picked him up and deposited him the leeward side of the boat with a massive thud. Some bruised ribs and an even bigger dint to his ego was the only damage, it was not too bad as he was fitting fit for racing the following weekend. The team at GTR Racing will not miss the runners on their Mumm 36 when they make the switch to a J109 next summer.
