We were limited in how much we could explore, for a few reasons: – We weren’t allowed to declare Anker, so he had to stay on board. – The forecast hinted at strong winds coming in
 –
and we couldn’t risk being stuck, since we’re dropping off a crewmember on Friday. So, we made the most of it! Wandered the charming streets, soaked up the island’s calm and authentic vibe, and of course — ordered cider and fish n’ chips at the local pub. What more can you ask for? Guernsey, we’ll be back. Next time, with more time and a dog who’s allowed on land đŸ¶đŸŒž #sail #sailing #circumnavigation #shortoftheday #guernsey #explore #adventure #liveaboard #dog #cutedog

A gale suddenly blows into the bay but, the sailboat storm anchor holds fast. A day of intense gusts and anxious moments, but Vie Sauvage holds steady with her over-sized anchor. Too much anchor is better than too little in my limited experience.

This was a trip up Southampton Water to the River Hamble. SotonMet logged it as F6 gusting F7. We were double reefed on the main with about 4/5 rolls in the jib. The wind was strong enough that we struggled to motor mainly because of the short chop. She sailed extremely well though, tacking all the way - 14 miles or so in total.
