Embarking on our journey to the Samaria Gorge, we set off in our rental car, eager to explore one of Europe's most renowned natural wonders. The Samaria Gorge is a canyon located in the middle of the White Mountains Forest Preserve. And the White Mountains massif (known as Lefka Ori in Greek) truly lived up to its name. Due to heavy rainfall the previous night, the mountain peaks were beautifully covered in snow. Snow on Crete? Yes indeed! The highest peak of the White Mountains stands at 2,453 meters, with more than 50 summits exceeding 2,000 meters. As we drove towards the Samaria Gorge, sometimes weaving between goats, we enjoyed the stunning views of the snow-capped mountains.

► Essai complet dans Multicoques Mag HS22 Forever Green : https://www.multicoques-mag.com/essais/catamaran/accwing-une-voilure-innovante-et-facile-a-maitriser ► Nous vous avions parlé il y a un peu plus de deux ans d’un drôle de catamaran à aile rigide conçu par Philippe Marcovich et Hugues de Turckheim. Ce multicoque tout carbone de 10 mètres de long et de 9 de large – avec ses échelles – pèse à peine une tonne. Avec ses élégantes étraves canoë, il ne manque pas d’allure mais ce n’est pas son dessin qui doit retenir l’attention… on monte plutôt un peu le regard pour découvrir un mât carbone de 17 mètres qui supporte une étonnante une aile souple et épaisse de 60 m2 baptisée ACCWing (pour automatic camber control wing). Le principe est donc de disposer à volonté, suivant l’allure et la force du vent, d’un profil simple ou cambré, à la manière d’une aile d’avion. La similitude avec les aéronefs modernes ne s’arrête pas là puisque le système s’actionne automatiquement grâce à des « muscles » souples internes. A terme, l’objectif est de proposer une aile qui se gère seule, ce qui pourrait attirer des usagers peu aguerris à la pratique de la voile et de ses subtilités. The HARDIN 44 Voyager, a classic sailing yacht from 1978, is a seaworthy vessel fully equipped for extended voyages. This well-maintained boat is ready to set sail with a range of features that combine performance and comfort. Engine: Powered by a robust "Yanmar" 75ps TD engine with 1,400 hours, the yacht boasts an excellent mechanical condition. The engine underwent a new installation in 2011 and has undergone meticulous annual inspections. The starter battery was replaced in November 2021, ensuring reliable starts. Sails: The yacht features high-quality "Doyle" sails, including a mainsail with lazy jacks (2012), a mizzen (2014), a self-tacking jib (2014), and a yankee on a furler (2014). Additionally, there are extra sails for different conditions, including a storm jib and a light wind sail for the jib stay. "Sunbrella" sail covers protect the sails when not in use. Anchoring and Windlass: The anchoring system includes a "Manson Supreme" anchor (65lbs, 2012) and a "CQR" anchor (45lbs). The yacht is equipped with a powerful "Lofrans" windlass (1500W, 2011) for convenient and efficient anchor handling. Navigation and Electronics: For navigation, the yacht is equipped with a "Furuno" autopilot, a "Lowrance" GPS plotter/fish finder (2015), and a "B&G" wind speed/direction indicator. Communication is facilitated by two VHF radios, one of which includes a GPS and AIS receiver (2015). Electrical System: The yacht is powered by four Trojan 105 batteries (450 Ah, October 2019) and supplemented by four solar panels providing approximately 360 W of power. An "AiLi" battery monitor (2021) ensures efficient management of the electrical system. Tanks and Utilities: With two 100-gallon diesel tanks and two 100-gallon fiberglass water tanks, the yacht has ample fuel and water storage for extended journeys. A Force 10 water heater is installed, although it has not been connected to the engine. A water purification filter with an extra faucet ensures a clean water supply.
