► Croisière complète dans Multicoques Mag N°222 : https://www.multicoques-mag.com/dossiers-catamaran-trimaran/expedition-uummaa-la-cote-ouest-du-groenland-en-hobie-cat ► Après trois mois de préparation intense, Dominique Bleichner et Paola Beneton se sont élancés à bord de leur Hobie Cat 18 Tiger sur la côte ouest du Groenland. Au départ de Nuuk, la capitale, l’équipage va caboter plus de 1 000 milles pendant deux mois vers le nord, de village en village. « Nous avons pris possession de notre embarcation à Isafjordur en Islande. Nous nous sommes décidés en quelques instants ; ensuite, pendant un long week-end, nous avons commencé à préparer le bateau. Nous avons notamment consolidé les coques en y ajoutant des semelles car les fonds seront extrêmement sollicités chaque jour lors des accostages. Depuis, le bateau a navigué vers Nuuk seul … en kit et en container. La particularité de cette expédition est que nous naviguerons sur un catamaran de sport de 5,50 m seulement. Ce petit multicoque nous offre l’agilité et le contact avec les éléments que nous recherchons. The long anticipated premier of the first two MC31s to hit the water played out in today’s passage race between Melbourne and Geelong for the start of the Geelong Festival of Sails. With John Taylor’s Vindaloo and Rohan Veal’s 38 South Racing sailing their respective boats quite literally ‘straight out of the box’ – Rohan’s sails arrived in Melbourne this morning – both skippers were delighted with their first outing, and are looking forward to using their kites tomorrow, after an upwind race today.

This was a great day. Meeting the amazing folks that hang around marinas. Boat people seem to be a different type. They’re helpful and sharing and friendly. Meeting David as he was headed out to drop some crab traps paid dividends when he came back later in the day and would not accept anything in exchange for his time collecting crabs. Two fresh crabs for dinner! Then, later in the day, we helped James and Betty load up their inflatable tender. Asking them if it was for sale and then how much they wanted for it…ended up being ours for free. We’ve been looking at hard-bottom tenders for a couple weeks, and the prices are ridiculous! We’re talking in the ballpark of $7k for new 3 metre hard-bottoms. So, this little boat is a truly appreciated gift. I am filled with gratitude right now.
