In this episode of the Rogue Rigger I take you on board the Farr 400 Astra for a race down the coast to Monterey in the Spinnaker Cup. This is the first leg of three of the California Offshore Race Week.
In this episode of the Rogue Rigger I install a new spinnaker halyard on an Olson 40. The boat previously had an external halyard and now we are running it inside the mast. I install the halyard exit plates at the top of the mast and the bottom and I show you how I run a new halyard. Enjoy!
In this episode of the Rogue Rigger I take you for another ride on the Farr 400 Astra. This time we are practicing our offshore maneuvers for the upcoming California Offshore Race Week. For the offshore races we are sailing with 8 crew instead of our normal 10. So no string drop and 2 less crew for the maneuvers. Enjoy!
First time out this season on the 505, Enjoy!
This is the third video of my new series where I show you how I splice up different lines. In this video I build up a high tech tack line for a J/99 using Kingfisher Ropes Racing Dyneema. In this video I cover how to do a stripped cover, eye splice with dyneema chafe sleeve and a flemish eye. There are many ways how to do this, this is how I build my high tech tack lines. As well I am a trained and certified rigger, so just because you watched my video does not make your certified or trained. Enjoy the video and shoot me a comment if you have questions or suggestions for my next video in this series.
Join me, Ryan the Rogue Rigger on my journey learning to sail my international moth and doing a bunch of upgrades to it along the way. This video is a bit of moth froth and a bunch of crashes in my attempts to figure out how to foil tack and gybe. Enjoy!
This is the fourth video of my new series where I show you how I splice up different lines. In this video I build up an outboard jib lead system for a J/99 using Robline Admiral Dyneema. I do a different version of a stripped cover splice and unique way how to integrate a low friction ring and spliced eye for easy soft attachment to the boat. Just a reminder, I am a trained and certified rigger, so just because you watched my video does not make your certified or trained. Enjoy the video and shoot me a comment if you have questions or suggestions for my next video in this series.

This is the second video of my new series where I show you how I splice up different lines. In this video I put an eye splice in some New England Ropes Sta-Set Polyester Double Braid. There are many ways how to do this, this is how I eye splice double braid. As well I am a trained and certified rigger, so just because you watched my video does not make your certified or trained. This is the first video of my new series where I show you guys how I spec up different lines. In this video I start out with a fun challenging project, building up Runner Tails for a TP 52. Im using Marlow Ropes MGP PBO/Vectran blended cover with a dyneema D-12 78 core. I use Kingfish Mafioli Dyneema chafe sleeve at the splice and the first 13' and then I finish it up with a light weight Kingfisher mafioli Swiftcord tail. There are many ways how to do this, this is how I build my runners for a boat of this caliber.
This video is pure "Moth Froth" Just blasting around the San Francisco Bay! Enjoy!
Join me, Ryan the Rogue Rigger on my journey of restoring a Mach 2 International Moth that I picked up earlier this year. I plan on upgrading it with all the modern systems with out breaking the bank and then I will take you along for the steep learning curve of learning to sail this Tasmanian devil of a boat. I have dreamed of owning one of these since they first came out back in 2008 when I got to take one for a spin. It was an unreal experience/feeling that I have been chasing ever since. At the time they were crazy expensive to buy and not in my budget. These days they are still crazy expensive to buy new, now there are a lot of older moths on the second hand market that are relatively affordable (Less than a Laser/ILCA in this case). For those of you who don't know, an International Moth is a single handed 11 foot long hydro foiling sailboat. These boats literally fly over the water on two hydrofoils doing speeds 2-3 times the speed of the wind. This video shows the upgrading of my moth boom. I remove the internal Cunningham system, removing old mainsheet and boom vang rigging. Bunch of carbon laminate work and putting it all back together in time to go sailing. Enjoy!
In this episode of the Rogue Rigger I take you for another ride on the Farr 400 Astra. This time we are competing in the 2025 Golden Gate yacht Club Sea Weed Soup Mid Winters. We were treated to a cold day with challenging puffy conditions as we make our way around the San Francisco Bay. Enjoy!

Good to get the light air practice as well just to get out on the water even if there was not enough breeze to foil. Enjoy!
In this episode of The Rogue Rigger I take you through the steps to replace the chainplates and tie rods on a Catalina 42. I have done a bunch of upgrades on this boat over the years, including the standing rigging replacement. At the time of the standing rigging replacement I noticed that the tie rod on the starboard side had lots of surface corrosion and that it should be cleaned and inspected further. We are now a few years later and during its recent rigging inspection I recommended that it be cleaned up and inspected. Once I dug into it I realized that its was worse shape and that it was time for replacement. So here we go, replacement time! Enjoy!
In this new series of The Rogue Rigger I take you along on our campaign to go to the 5o5 World Championships in Hayling Island, England. The worlds start in July of 2026 so we have just a year and a half to go. Follow Mike and I on our journey to get to the world championships, from boat upgrades, practice days, regattas, debriefs and some shenanigans along the way. In this episode we take you onboard our 505 for a weekend of racing in the St Francis Yacht Clubs Fall Dinghy Regatta. This was a rough weekend for us as we just don't have enough recent time in the boat an d our boat handling has gone to crap... Plenty of good times to be had in the challenging conditions on the San Francisco City Front.

This was by far my best session yet. Consistently foiling, high stoke and high speeds!!! Enjoy

In this episode we take you onboard our 505 for a training session out of the Alameda Community Sailing Center on a beautiful October day. We got our hands on some new tech to try out on the boat, a Vakaros Atlas 2, Cyclops Marine Nano Load Cell and a new GoPro 13 with GPS. So now that we have this tech what do we do with it? Well you upload all the video and data onto Njord Analytics which enables you to sync up the data with the video so you can do some in depth training debriefs. This video is my first attempt at using the program so bear with me while I figure out the best way to share it with my viewers and get the info I need to sail faster. Good times!
