With limited space on a boat, this lifestyle forces you to consider what is really necessary. Hint* it is less than you think.
Some people, especially in the US, despise liveaboards. Whether it is jealousy, misconceptions, or something else, it doesn't matter. Shrug them off and live the life that makes you happy.
Melissa, an avid animal lover, rescues a hooked pelican.
Alcohol and boating go together like peanut butter and jelly. Or do they? I would argue that over indulgence of alcohol is not only a major concern in the boating community, but a risk that should be avoided. In this episode I explore some the negative aspects of consumption aboard, and touch a little on my own journey away from alcoholism.
"Where do you use the bathroom?" I must be asked this question at least once a week. Probably more.
Living the daily grind while anchored away from the dock can be stressful. Our preferred way to deal with the stress is to go have a little fun.
Winter is over and with summer comes rains... and leaks. Freshwater intrusion is a serious issue not just for Paramour, but for any boat. And after a very dry winter, I've discovered a couple leaks that need attention.
Paramour hit the first of many monetary goals. The cruising kitty is growing!
I was recently boarded by law enforcement while at anchor and it got me wondering exactly what my rights were in regard to their unwanted invasion of privacy.
A brief tour of sv Paramour.
Water is precious when you live at anchor. Here are a couple tips on how we conserve our water supply so that we are not hauling water all the time.
Living aboard isn't always the easiest way of life, but there are some things that absolutely make it worth while.
There's been a bit of a heat wave and the crew of sv Paramour is feeling the heat.
The winds have picked up with the cold front that has come through and with it come more challenges to living aboard. Life onboard a boat at anchor isn't always glamorous, but even when it is less than ideal, it beats life on land. I want to give a shout out to Mantus Anchors for making a phenomenal product that I trust my life to every single day. I've never used an anchor that worked as well as theirs. It has held through some serious weather, and I expect that it will do so some more in the future.
Introduction to my new video blog about life aboard
The crew of s/v Paramour decided to take a day off and explore on land for a change. We headed up to John Chestnut Sr Park in the northern part of Pinellas County and later went for a tasty lunch in nearby Safety Harbor. Paramour is in need of some love and her crew is up to the task with a little help from a friend. Capt. Nikko helped out by painting the decks and added new nonskid. He also fitted a new teak hatch that he built to replace the old rotted out one. Meanwhile Melissa went to work cleaning blinds and organizing the interior, and CJ caught hell trying to change the belts on the old Volvo engine.
