Southern California's weather during January, February, and March is hard to beat-lately, we've been enjoying sunny days with temperatures in the 60s and 70s. One of the most common questions we hear this time of year is: "Will I get cold on the water?" The truth is, San Diego's winter weather isn't all that different from fall or spring.   Captain Dave's Tip: Bring an extra layer-like a windbreaker or jacket-to stay comfortable during your sail. And don't worry, we've got you covered with cozy blankets, especially when the sun begins to set on our Sunset Sails. Another reason to sail this season? It's prime wildlife-spotting time! We are very excited to reveal our big project. San Diego's first fully electric charter sailboat! ??? In this most recent refit of our Catalina 400, Bree Zen, we replaced the old Westerbeke diesel engine with a state-of-the-art electric motor. By replacing a diesel engine with an electric one, motoring in and out of the harbor is now a completely smooth and silent process. With no exhaust or diesel fumes, and no pollutants going into the water. ? To support our new electric motor, we've integrated four 48-volt lithium batteries from Dakota Lithium. Thanks to Dakota Lithium and Electric Yachts - they've helped us take our sailing experiences to a whole new level! ???? Our transition from diesel to electric power is part of our ongoing efforts to explore new innovations and products, and offer even more eco-friendly sailing experiences. After a year of working on this project, we're excited to announce we officially just launched Bree Zen: a beautiful Catalina 400 sailboat refit with a state-of-the-art electric motor. A Major Upgrade: From Diesel to Electric In this most recent refit of Bree Zen, we replaced the old Westerbeek diesel engine, which had accumulated over 30,000 hours of operation, with a state-of-the-art electric motor. This switch to electric propulsion marks a significant milestone in our commitment to offering you a relaxing and even more eco-friendly experience on board. Why is this Significant?  While the goal is always to cut the engine as soon as we get the sails up in the Bay, we still need a motor to navigate in and out of the docks. Now, by replacing a diesel engine with an electric one, motoring in and out of the harbor is a completely smooth and silent process, with no exhaust or diesel fumes, and no pollutants going into the water. Your sailing encounter just got that much more relaxing! Powered by Dakota: To support our new electric motor, we've integrated four 48-volt Lithium Batteries from Dakota Lithium. By using lithium batteries, we were able to streamline the refitting process, replacing a number of smaller batteries with just four Dakota units.
