Well hello I know its been a long time but today is the start of the next chapter in our sailing adventures, because we have bought a new boat. We'll tell you more about here over the course of the year but to start with, this is what we have bought, and most importantly, she is called Daphi If you would like to leave a comment and find that YouTube has disabled them again on this film, then please take a look at the community tab on our page. We will leave a discussion open on there so that we can all have a chat about what happened. We make these films just for fun, and we hope that you have enjoyed watching them however we have been asked on a couple of occasions now if we have a Paytreon account. We don’t want to do that at this stage as we feel it would turn the channel into a business, and as we said at the beginning, this is all just for fun. You can have a lot of fun with a Wayfarer dinghy. This week we take Elizabeth and a friend out for dinner in town, followed by treasure hunting on a deserted island, what could be better. Sorry, this is not much of a film, but then a lots been going on recently, and none of it has been sailing. But those of you that like Wayfarer dinghy's, sailing on the Medway, or just like to follow us and what we get up to, might find it interesting. So this week we head off with the Medway Yacht Club cruisers again on a little jolly along the coast a short way to Conyer Creek and Swale Marina. Its not a long trip, pretty much all inland as we travel down in the Lee of the Isle of Sheppy, and with the forecast that was given it should have been quite pleasant. Except the wind piped up to over 40 knots making the journey more exciting than normal, we run aground on the way up the creek, and then we get a rope around our propeller just when we didn't need it. All way more exciting than we had hoped for. If you would like to leave a comment and find that YouTube has disabled them again on this film, then please take a look at the community tab on our page. So with the weather forecasters all agreeing that we would have some good weather for Easter we decide, at the last minute, to spend some family time away on the boat.... even if the tides are all wrong! Sea Horse is back in the water so we all take her out for the first sail of the year. Whilst we do that we have a bit of a natter about tides! We get a lot of tide on the east coast of England, yes there are places that have more but with todays tidal range being 6m, we have plenty to keep us occupied. Of course with that much water flowing in and out of the Medway each day you dont get very far if you dont take it into account when going for a sail so here are some of the things we think about when picking a route down river. We make these films just for fun, and we hope that you have enjoyed watching them however we have been asked on a couple of occasions now if we have a Paytreon account. OK REALLY SORRY PEOPLE BUT YOUTUBE HAVE DISABLED COMMENTS ON THIS FILM WHICH KIND OF MESSES UP THE CONVERSATION AND THE POINT OF IT. IF YOU DO HAVE A COMMENT PERHAPS YOU COULD POST IT ON OUR FILM ABOUT 'COMMENTS BEING DISABLED', THAT WAY WE CAN STILL DISCUSS THE SUBJECT AND IT WILL PROMOTE THE FILM THAT HIGHLIGHTS THE PROBLEM. https://youtu.be/bG0VOcHRKOQ THANKS Lazy jacks are those lines that are tied to your boom that help control you main sail when your hoisting or dropping the sail. Many yachts have them and plenty of skipper will have an opinion about them, so while we wait for the weather to improve and a chance to launch sea Horse lets have a chat about them. So are they good or bad? take a We make these films just for fun, and we hope that you have enjoyed watching them however we have been asked on a couple of occasions now if we have a Paytreon account. Ok so this is just my opinion and please feel free to let me know what you think, but basically, although roller furler's and foils like the Harken carbo or Tuff luff systems are great for cruisers and racers respectively, if you sail short handed or want to do a bit of both, hanks are the answer. To my mind the only question is why dont more boats use them?
The title says it all really. As much as we applaud YouTube for trying to crack down on the abuse of children, we are a sailing channel... most of our films are just of Ian, an old bloke, sailing our boat on his own. And to our knowledge we haven't had any comments that are in any way targeted at our daughter so why pick on us. I mean its a great idea but targeting "Sailing with the Foxwell family" really... is that going to solve the problem. O one more thing... Izzys own channel, the one that has nothing but her featured in it... comments are still allowed on there, go figure!
So its nearing the end of February and when Steve asked if we wanted to go for a sail we said, yes, sounds great. And this is what happened. Not much of a film but a memory of what the weather has been like this year
So this week we give some thought to our tool boxs, or more specifically address the problem of having steel tools on a boat, and rust. It doesn't matter how well you look after your tools on a boat sooner or later they will go rusty so lets see how good a job Evapo-rust can do on restoring them. We often get asked about our camera gimbal on the back of the boat so this week we take a short break from boat maintenance to explain about our setup. The SeaDog is an early fibreglass yacht designed in the 60's and built up until the mid 70's. Well over a hundred have been built with plenty having circumnavigated the globe and several of these single handed, so this is a proper Bluewater yacht in every sense of the word with an active and friendly class association. Whats not to like. We don't get to sail at Wilsonians now as much as we would like but, we do always try and take part in the New Years Day Race each year. So were not sure if we should be doing this but if your interested in a fully sorted 29ft cruiser / racer that has had everything sorted out then get in touch. For those that dont know Sea Horse is a Hanse 291. She has an enormous sail wardrobe, excellent electronics, a top notch autohelm and just about all the items that you can think of that might need to be serviced on an older boat done! This week we decide to visit the second world war anti-aircraft gun towers that are sitting on the Red Sand mud flats out in the Thames estuary. Nicola White, who some of you may know from her mudlarking channel came with us and although the journey there and back was rather dull the overall adventure was great and the atmosphere when we were there was quite special.
