If you listen to the various discussions around the docks, you know that there is significant disparities among sailors concerning fixed docks and floating docks. For Toni and I, nothing beats a floating dock and we think most catamaran sailors would agree. Fixed docks required line adjustments, fender movements, and simply getting on and off the boat safely depends on the tides. However, a floating docks are a set it, and forget it. Everything moves as a whole with the tides. See why here. Feel free to comment and let us know your thoughts. Subscribe and share the adventure! When the seas make navigation difficult and fatigue causes confusion, we search for beacons of light to help guide our way. We welcome these beacons of light as they bring us comfort and remind us that all will be well. They allow us to reset our course. When we put them abeam, we slow down and make a Moment in Time to remind ourselves of all those that have gone before us and all those that will follow behind. These are the most familiar beacons for Toni and I. How many are familiar to you? Feel free to comment and let us know your thoughts. Subscribe and share the adventure! Who has not dreamed of living off-grid. Toni and I with our Seawind Catamaran thought this might be achievable, with our water maker, 1600 watts of solar, fishing skills and the like. But are we really ever off-grid, AIS tattling your course and speed, smart phones and smart watches lighting up the airwaves, cell towers pinging your location with every text message, and now eyes in space. I guess we could simply turn everything off, but then how will they find us if we are ever in distress? Feel free to comment and let us know your thoughts. Subscribe and share the adventure! Toni and I continue our winter ritual and went to check on “Moments in Time”. What in the hell were we thinking? It is cold, it is windy, and it is snowing. It is days like this that make us question our sanity. Anyway, I think we learned our lesson. Next winter we will be where the palm trees sway, the bikinis abound, and the rum is plentiful. The marina takes on a different persona when the sun stays low and the cold winds start to blow. I went to check on “Moments in Time” during the winter solstice. The boats on the hard were whistling in the wind, the sounds of laughter and tinking of drinks from the pool area had long departed, droning of harbor traffic remained eerily silent, and the lapping of waves had become more pronounced. I watched the sun reached its zenith over Moments in Time as shared in the last frames of the video. It was cold so I did not linger long. Feel free to comment and let us know your thoughts. It felt that our sailing season was cut short. We just took delivery of “Moments in Time” back in April and now she is already laid up for the winter. A colder than normal November and December forced us to put our Seawind 1260 into hibernation. I hope next year we will wise up and simply sail south when the November winds come a calling. Toni woke early in the morning in our secluded anchorage this autumn morning aboard "Moments in Time" and shares her perspective of the day. It was her birthday, so we spent a lazy day at anchor and celebrated with a nice dinner. More to come. Feel free to comment and let us know your thoughts. Subscribe and share the adventure! Can we squeeze another sail in for the season? There was a chill in the November air, but Toni and I loaded some provisions into “Moments in Time” for an autumn sail. We enjoyed the sounds of autumn in the light winds while we searched for a secluded cove to drop anchor for the night. Feel free to comment and let us know your thoughts. I grew up sailing the local waters of the Patuxent River and the Chesapeake Bay, where we stood constant watch for other boats, crab pots, and debris in the water. Sometimes it is hard to relax. It is not until you go off the coast that you really come to appreciate the peace and solitude of sailing and the sea. You have time to enjoy your surroundings and mentally record those Moments in Time. Feel free to comment and let us know your thoughts. Subscribe and share the adventure!

A great day of sailing needs to be capped with a great dinner. Some vegetables from the garden, some prime ribeyes, and a nice bottle of red wine surely creates one of those "Moments in Time". We are anchored in Battle Creek, across from Long Cove, the home port of our 18-foot Trimaran going back to the 1970s. This is where it all began.

The worse thing to find on your deck are little screws, bolts, and nuts. Where did they come from? Something important? Well Toni found a small set screw and we could not find anything within reach that it might belong to so up the mast I had to go. It belonged to the windex. I put some threadlock on it and returned it where it had escape, with a stern scolding. I am getting too old for this :(

A weather window opened up with cool temperatures and descent winds. Toni and I loaded "Moments in Time" for an overnight trip. We slipped the dock lines and tacked up the Patuxent River looking for a spot to drop the hook for the night.

The Delmarva Circumference has been on my bucket list since I was young. Toni and I wanted to take "Moments in Time" around the Delmarva Peninsula for quite some time but schedules and weather did not permit us. Finally, a weather window opened in late September, so Toni and I slipped the lines and started our odyssey. It took us about 7.5 days and about 500 miles.

We struggled to find a solution for changing the I16 VSD 16000 BTU AC Controls from Celsius to Fahrenheit aboard our Seawind 1260, Moments in Time. This simple process has been shrouded in secrecy at the highest level to try to force Americans into the metric system, but we won’t go without a struggle. Thanks to Craig from Oculus, who discovered the process to foil this conspiracy. I share this at great risk.

Toni and I headed to “Moments in Time” to raise and furl the screecher sail but the pouring rain caused by Ernesto out in the Atlantic delayed our arrival. Since the breeze was too much to raise and furl a large sail, we decided to rig the flag halyards off the port and starboard spreaders. At least we got something checked off our “to do” list. Another good day, another Moment in Time. Subscribe and share the adventure! Toni and I had the opportunity to check out the first Seawind 1370 in the United States. We did not think twice and headed up to Sail Away Catamarans to enjoy a demonstration sail on Damsel Fly. The 1370 is only 4 feet longer than the 1260, but it is a very different boat. There were things we liked and things we did not, so like every other boat known to mankind, it comes down to compromises. Like all Seawinds, she sailed very nicely in the low winds.

When the sailing weather does not cooperate, we make up for it. We had gone out for a morning sail and returned in early afternoon due to rain and lack of wind. We stopped at Lighthouse Inn in Solomons for lunch. Monica and I enjoyed some fresh oysters on the half shell and some raw oyster shooters. Toni never had an oyster shooter so we encouraged her to try one and make a Moment in Time. See how she did.

The doldrums of July and August is not lending itself to great sailing so Toni and I picked a day and committed to some sailing on Moments in Time no matter what. Monica joined us as we try to make the best of it in light winds and overcast skies. Hey, a bad day of sailing beats a good day in the office anytime. )

It has been a very long time since my brothers and I all went sailing. This was the perfect day with gusty winds that forced us to put two reefs in. We sailed the Hooper Island Lighthouse run and made it back no worse for the wear. And none of us got in trouble . . . , at least not that we know of. Subscribe and share the adventure!
