This video shows a detailed tutorial with voice and visual explanations of how to build your wallet step-by-step. The only materials you need is a used-and-rinsed milk/juice carton, scissors, and some minutes of your time to get yourself busy creating this. With this tutorial we intend to show you the basics of how to create a simple, useful and long-lasting item from a wasted element that normally we don't use for more than a day or two. Milk and juice cartons are very hard elements to recycle since they are made of plastic, carton and an aluminium coating all glued together. On Sailing vs Plastic, one of our goals is to collect all plastic used during the journey and either reuse, transform or UPCYCLE it! We have not invented this! Someone told us how to do it, and we're sharing it with you! As you can see, we've used a new element that we've never used before when creating this wallets, so feel free to take this as a base for your creations and get crazy improving them however you want! Here's an explanatory video of what's happenning right now on our project! We have been in Gambia for almost two months with minimum internet & electricity access but fully rewarded with smiles, love and amazing experiences. We've got lots of material to edit and put together to show you, but what we enjoy the most is the fact that we can keep spreading awareness about plastic pollution! As you can hear on the video, we're joining KARMA in South Africa for an incredible sailing leg of 5000 nautical miles towards Australia / New Zealand. About 50 days of navigation on one of the most respected Oceans around the world. We will keep you as posted as possible! Stay tuned, enjoy and reduce plastics! Thanks for all support!
A meal can be healty, good, rich on flavours, colous, with some toppings and some creativity. This one included all of the above plus 5 single use pieces of plastic to take home! After KARMA, last home for our project, set sail to her own adventure, we got happily stuck in the magical island of Lanzarote for more than three weeks until TRIM, our new floating home, arrived. Without looking for it, we organically found amazing plastic-pollution related individuals, campaigns, organisations, radio programs (we got interviewed!) and big amounts of consciousness around the subject! On this chapter, we get interviewed on Radio Tias by Raquel Herrero. Her program "Magnolia" brings an ecological and environmental approach to radio broadcasting around the island, raising awareness and bringing weekly updates to their listeners. For the full interview, follow this link: http://sailingvsplastic.org/index.php/2017/10/19/interview-at-radio-tias-lanzarote-at-magnolia-with-raquel-herrero/ Also, we spent a beautiful afternoon with artist/activist Álvaro Guzman (https://www.instagram.com/alvardelmar/) in La Santa, a small fisherman village in the west side of Lanzarote. Álvaro, born and raised in mainland spain, felt the attraction to Lanzarote straight away, and since some years he is able to grow his personality and creativity in such inspiring environment. He is one of the referent microplastic artists of the archipielago and through his video-campaign, OCEANO PLASTICO, shows his thoughts and insides: https://vimeo.com/221080893. Check out the whole interview that Sailing vs Plastic had with Álvaro here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aaO1nBP1vFE Juanka from MJC Ambiental brings us to Famara, the most beautiful beach in Lanzarote, to talk about his involment with Aguita con el Plástico and help us out with our microplastic studies. Find more about MJC ambiental here: https://www.facebook.com/mjc.ambiental/ We visited the "Cabildo de Lanzarote" (Lanzarote Council) to get to know "Aguita con el plastico", a council run department which works very hard to bring plastic awareness and consciousness at the highest levels they can achieve. They are pioneers on organising the first Microplastic Congress around the world in 2016 with more than 200 scientifics and individuals gathered, and have amazing campaigns all year round. More info here: https://www.facebook.com/Aguitaconelplastico/ "CleanerOceanUpcyclingProductions" are a 'more profit' association campaigning about plastic pollution through beach cleanups, video campaigns and awareness-related activities. Their cover of 'blowing in the wind' can be head on this chapter! Find out more on: https://www.c-o-u-p.org/english/ Now we're joining TRIM, our new home, to cruise around Canaries, pick up our full crew, stock up on food for the next 6 months, and get ready for our first crossing, probably to Gambia! The trace of plastic waste does not start with the final costumer. Supermarkets, malls, food chains and all sorts of food-industry related establishments take less than care for their food waste, being most of it wrapped in plastic. This scena was recorded on the last day before Sailing vs Plastic departure from Netherlands. It happens in all supermarkets. Ecology, environment and inner world, Magnolia brings the beautiful approach towards sustainability and conscious awareness on broadcast for Lanzarote. Sailing vs Plastic was delighted to be interviewed with such good vibes, therefore we'd like to thank Raquel Herrero and Radio Tias for providing this interview on our channel. In our stopover in Lanzarote, we had the amazing oportunity to Meet Álvaro. This volcanic land has brought his creativity to further level, growing towards a further conscious approach towards microplastics, being a personal project expanded into a local known campaign to raise awareness about plastic debris. Ever since he first set foot in Lanzarote, he knew he was bound to live there,, and now his dream has come true. Álvaro is an incredible artist and better human, seeking for balance within and around him and with such beautiful soul that brightens every single word of our conversation. OCEANO PLASTICO is his last video-creation where shows his personal approach to plastic debris: https://vimeo.com/221080893 Follow him on www.instagram.com/alvardelmar
On a beautiful Autumn Equinox in the northern hemisphere, 21st of September, Sailing vs Plastic aboard SV KARMA left Netherlands bound to Madeira. Underway the destination turned to Lanzarote, Islas Canarias, which took us 19 days to complete. This first chapter brings you to liveaboard life, plastic challenges on board, sailing insights in rough and not-so raugh conditions and shows the beauty of our oceans and nature when allowed to happen and left to their own elements. Sailing vs Plastic is a 15 months journey on where we will sail on, at least, two different sailboats, from Netherlands to New Zealand, on a journey that aims to bring awareness about plastic pollution and carbon footprint. To do that, we undertake objectives and challenges, such as the accumulation of all plastic personally used by the author, plastic debris (microplastics) survey in each country visited, connecting and getting to know local environmental communities or government departments, and many others. The amazing artists that have provided their music for this chapter are: Cam el Niño: https://soundcloud.com/camelnino Anuah: https://anuah.bandcamp.com/ Follow the project! www.sailingvsplastic.org / https://www.facebook.com/sailingvsplastic. A type of "Eurasian hobby" (Falco subbuteo) rested on top of KARMA's mizzen mast for some hours before giving us an incredible show of how the laws of land bird predators and pray can also be applied in the middle of the Ocean. Film was recorded 150 nautical miles away from the shores of Portugal on our 14th day of sailing from Netherlands to Canaries.
