We're celebrating the 4th of July in 2025 with fireworks, dancing and a weekend sailing cruise on Lewisville Lake on our Catalina C30 sailboat. In voyage one for the 2025 sailing season we get out on the water to explore a hidden cove with one of our YouTube channel subscribers! We had to tack upwind to get to the cove after leaving the marina, then we go for a swim and eat some good food cooked right from the galley of SV Zanadu. The day before we were able to watch fireworks for the Lake Dallas 4th of July celebration from the viewpoint at the American Legion Post 88. We nearly got hit by lightning and a tornado on the lake this episode! The storm passed by just north of us on Lewisville Lake, TX. We can't move our sailboat (1983 Catalina 30 Tall rig), because were tied down in the mooring slip at the marina. Argh! Key Moments in the video: 1. In this episode, we braved rolling thunderstorms, cast our lines in the rain, and watched nature put on an incredible lightning show over the lake. Stick around-this one's got it all. 2. The day started peacefully. The lake was glassy and still-almost too still. Off in the distance, dark clouds crept in from the west, a quiet warning of what was to come. Rain came and went in soft bursts, but by late afternoon, the atmosphere had changed. The wind picked up, and the skies grew heavy. We could feel the storm building around us. One of our favorite things is watching the rain dance on the lake's surface. There's something mesmerizing about those tiny ripples in the stillness. 3. We set out our fishing lines, hopeful that the weather wouldn't scare off dinner. Rain or not, we were determined to catch something. 4. While I prepped dinner down below, the skies prepared something of their own: a light show we won't soon forget. As night fell, flashes of blue and purple lit up the clouds, turning the horizon into a flickering silhouette. Thunder rolled in the distance-not threatening, but powerful and strangely soothing. We were lucky the main storm tracked just north of us. Had it shifted, we'd have battened down the hatches and ridden it out below deck. But instead, we had front-row seats. We kept a close eye on the radar. The weather service issued a warning: winds up to 55 miles per hour, half-inch hail, and a tornado watch until 10 p.m. We were ready to react, but for now, we just watched. 5. The lightning intensified, each strike brighter than the last. And just as the storm put on its show, we sat down for dinner-still waiting on that fish. Rain or shine, we weren't giving up. We were going to fish until the last light faded or the storm made us stop-whichever came first. 6. Some days on the water are calm, others are electric. This one had a little bit of both. In this video we experience the spring pink moon for 2025, and replace the house and starting batteries on our 1983 Catalina C30 sailboat on Lewisville Lake, TX. The old batteries lasted 4 years aboard SV Zanadu, and now it is time to replace them. I got the marine grade batteries at O'Rilley Auto Parts and let's hope they last another 4 years... Ahoy! We are getting our Catalina 30 sailboat ready for sailing in 2025. A lot of boat projects need to be done each year, and we are cleaning and organizing our clothes in the V berth in this episode. Storage of clothing is essential to a well balanced boat when sailing on the water. Watch this episode for a surprise (Cyndi bought me a guitar for my birthday a few weeks ago on St. Patrick's Day and it's finally arrived). I did make food in the galley. I cooked Milanesa round steak by rolling it up into beef rolls. This is a common sailboat recipe for us because it's easy to make in the air fryer in the galley. Argh mates, we're getting ready for the spring sailing season on Lewisville Lake, TX. In this episode I am sanding the teak in the galley of the 1983 Catalina C30 Tall Rig while Cyndi gets some wildlife photos & videos around the marina. We also got to see the planets aligned in the sky at dusk. We have broiled leg of lamb for dinner, and go out to see friends at the Lake Dallas VFW. We dance the night away watching Mondos Bizarros, a Blondie & Ramones Cover Band, the we enjoy Rock-n-Roll with Gypsy VooDoo Dallas. They played their original music and cover though the night.
