We can taste it, just 200 more miles left to go. With huge weather north of us we took a small window to make tracks. We have some big jobs planned, we just need to get to Saint Marten so we can start on them. Plus the Superbowl is on Sunday and Yvette has never seen the game before! It was like getting hit by 1000 little bricks. we had been told 90 km of wind was going to hit us, we though we were ready. Leaving Dominica was a bit sad, but we had to lock in right away when a boat ahead of us told us that 50 knot winds were coming it turns out the gust that hit us was 67 knots and it was worse then we thought. Filming had to take a back seat and we had to hold everything down, it only lasted for a short time but it was nuts! Most people just sail right by but this could be the best island in the Caribbean! Dominica is just amazing, hot springs everywhere, huge mountains, river tours, deep blue water, volcanic beaches, you could spend weeks on this small island and not get bored. Out in the Atlantic ocean we lost the use of 2 sails But we didn't turn around. We could only sail one way and we were hoping that it would get us there. We didn't want to risk running the motors for 14 days without a break. So sailing wing on wing had to work. We could only sail dead down wind so we needed to watch the wind and hope to sail in a straight line for 14 days, if you know sailing then you know how much luck we needed. We lost the use of our main sail on day 3 Then on day 13 it got much worse. We have had a very slow sail across the Atlantic without our main sail. When we finally had good wind to fly our spinnaker, we jumped on the chance. We should have been sailing at 8 to 10 knots, but for that to happen your sail has to stay up. After 2 nice days we thought it was all good. Then we couldn't take the sail down Being out in the ocean with full sails up is great, until you can't take them down. Darcy had to go up the mast with the boat rocking to try and fix the problem, but even that didn't go to plan. Everything was going so well. Then out of no where it just snapped. We were really thought most of our problems were fixed, but that just goes to show you how many things can go wrong on a boat. This is our first huge bluewater passage in this catamaran. The wind speed peaked at 101 km/h and lines started to break everywhere. A line on the boat beside us snapped and it went wrong from there. Many boats were damaged, we did everything we could to help out, in the end it caused our boat to get damaged, but we would do the same thing again if we had the choice. After the storm we had to get right back to work and start completing jobs, there should be a good window to start our big Atlantic crossing and we don't have much time to catch it. You never want that much water inside your boat! I just freaked out! With our huge water tanks pouring all over the boat I didn't even know it was happening till the water was at my feet! We had about 500 liters or 132 gallons of water on the floor of our boat And i had no clue where it was coming from! We had some much work to do and they told us we had to stop... We didn't stop, and they told us they would call the cops Its a mad rush to get everything done, and we had no time to spare, we just had to pull out all the stops to make it happen. we got no sleep and worked our butts off! We were very quiet and everyone else was making noise, but it was us that needed to stop, i guess the rules are the rules no mater what! After weeks of prep, fighting weather, and everything else going wrong! Its done, we got the paint on and it looks amazing. We love it! If you could paint a boat any color what would it be? We wanted our boat to be us, and to do that we needed paint, our last boat had a strip of paint, for this boat we went all out! You can do as much or as little as you want.
