Our Rainbow and Takatapui programme helps young people grow in different aspects, including their mental wellbeing, while instilling a deeper understanding of the importance of protecting our marine ecology. Our programs have had a positive impact on many young people, especially those from the Rainbow community who are facing mental health challenges, and we are committed to offering this programme to as many participants as possible.
In the still waters of Kawau Island the 2023 Kristin year 10 students challenged each other to a kayak race between the world famous maxi-yachts.
Every morning, our students swim a lap around the yacht under the supervision of our professional crew.

Students from Tangaroa College treated to an Orca fly by. Awesome!
24 May 2022, the crew on Steinlager 2 welcomed 24 students and teachers, from Otahuhu College, onboard for two days and one night. These trips are incredibly action packed. It’s a case of, ‘hold on to your hats crew, we have lots to do’. As per every school we strive to deliver the right balance of teaching sailing, having fun and making lasting memories. Phew.. Sailing, leadership, laughing, team building games on shore and onboard, swimming, kayaking, laughing, cooking and cleaning. We even managed a sleep in there! 😊 The Viaduct, Motuihe Island, hoisted all three sails and had a magic sunset sail, gliding up around Rakino and the Noises Islands into Waikalabubu Bay, Motutapu Island for dinner and the night. After the clean up next morning, a very stimulating, exhilarating short blast (sail) back to more games on shore on the NE side of Motuihe Island. We delivered a buzzing bunch of good sorts, later that afternoon back to the Viaduct. ALL OF THIS was very very kindly funded by the Auckland Maritime Foundation. ❤️
New Zealand Blue Light joined us for a fun, albeit challenging adventure onboard Lion NZ. Viaduct Rotoroa Island Te Kouma Coromandel Viaduct Motuihe Island All onboard were outside their comfort zones but all stood tall and faced their fears, pushing through the boundaries of the unknown. Lots of new friendships and unforgettable memories made.
