We’re halfway through a 900-mile offshore passage across the Caribbean Sea toward Central America — five kids, two parents, and one home afloat. 🌎⛵ What started with beautiful trade winds and steady sailing quickly turned into squalls, confused seas, and long overnight watches. Offshore sailing always has a way of testing you… and this passage was no different. But this is why we sail — for the adventure, the growth, and the resilience it builds in our family. In this episode: Settling into life offshore on a long passage Sailing through changing Caribbean conditions Managing rough seas with kids aboard Night watches and real-life moments at sea The final miles and safely pulling into port in Central America 900 miles is no small undertaking, especially as a family of seven living aboard full-time. After island hopping our way down the Bahamian chain, we’ve reached the edge of the islands… and the beginning of something bigger. In this episode, our family of seven rounds the southern tip of Cuba and enters the powerful waters of the Windward Passage, the stretch of ocean between Cuba and Haiti. Here, currents clash. Swell wraps around the land. Winds oppose the sea. It’s a place where different bodies of water collide and become one — confused, choppy, and unpredictable. We face rough seas, shifting currents, and the kind of conditions that demand teamwork from every single one of us. Offshore sailing with five kids means everyone steps up. Watches are stood. Sails are adjusted. Meals are made underway. And together, we push south. This marks a major turning point in our journey — leaving the Bahamas behind and committing to the open Caribbean as we work our way toward Panama. Passagemaking isn’t always calm turquoise anchorages. Sometimes it’s gray skies, stacked waves, and trusting your boat — and each other. ⚓ Next stop: continuing south toward Panama. Subscribe and follow along as we sail one of the Caribbean’s most dynamic stretches of water as a full-time liveaboard family.
After months of island hopping through the Bahamas, we’ve finally reached the last island — Great Inagua 🇧🇸 In this episode, our family of seven makes one final stop in Matthew Town for provisions, fishing, and yes… one last cold beer before the real adventure begins. Catching a great fish at just the right time felt like a gift, and we’re incredibly grateful as we prepare for what’s ahead. With full tanks, stocked lockers, and hearts full of memories, we pull anchor at Great Inagua and point the bows toward the Windward Passage, officially leaving the Bahamas behind and working our way back south toward Panama. This is more than just another sail — it’s the end of one chapter and the beginning of the next. 🌊 Off-grid family life 🎣 Fishing for dinner ⚓ One of our biggest passages yet Thanks for being part of the journey. Where will the wind take us next?
This episode marks a huge milestone in our journey south. After months of island hopping through the Bahamas, we’re leaving Long Island and setting sail for the Acklin Islands—our final true island hop before the big push toward Great Inagua, the last island in the Bahamas. A change in our plans leads to Fortune Island. An Island left in Ruins, and rich in history beneath the beautiful white sands of it's beaches. From here, everything changes. The easy cruising gives way to long passages, bigger weather windows, and the excitement (and nerves) of preparing for the Windward Passage. As a family of seven living full-time aboard, these moments remind us why we chose this life—freedom, adventure, and seeing the world one sail at a time. Join us as we soak in the last of the Bahamian blues, reflect on how far we’ve come, and set our sights on what lies beyond the horizon. Where will the winds take us next?

The Bahamas always seem endless… but are they? 🌴⛵ In this episode, our family of seven living aboard full-time continues island-hopping down the Bahamian chain, making the most of every stop as we work our way toward the Windward Passage and eventually back to Panama. We leave the crystal-clear anchorage of Rudder Cay, point the bows south, and make a festive holiday stop in Georgetown, Elizabeth Harbor — a familiar place filled with good memories, friendly faces, and that unmistakable cruising community vibe. As quickly as we arrived, we’re gone — chasing the next island, the next anchorage, and the next adventure. That leaves us wondering: How many islands are left in the Bahamas? How many more can we explore before it’s time to cross the Windward Passage? Which ones will we actually get to see, and which will have to wait for another season? The Bahamas have always felt like paradise to us — endless turquoise water, quiet anchorages, and unforgettable moments as a family. But as we continue island hopping through the Bahamian chain, a big question keeps coming up: With rising cruising and permit fees… is the Bahamas still worth it? In this episode, our family of seven living full-time aboard our sailboat sails from Chub Cay to Shroud Cay, one of our absolute favorite stops in the Exumas. Along the way, we talk honestly about the increased costs of visiting the Bahamas, what cruisers are paying now, and whether the experience still justifies the price for families, budget cruisers, and long-term liveaboards. Once anchored in Shroud Cay, we soak in everything that makes this place so special — drifting through the famous lazy mangrove river, hiking to breathtaking overlooks, and capturing some of the most epic drone footage we’ve ever filmed. The contrast between untouched natural beauty and the realities of cruising costs makes this stop especially thought-provoking. As we spend our last day in Shroud Cay, we begin preparing the boat, the kids, and ourselves for the next leg of our journey as we continue working our way back toward the Windward Passage. Weather planning, route decisions, and saying goodbye to another unforgettable anchorage are all part of life at sea. This episode is a mix of raw cruising reality and jaw-dropping scenery — the kind that reminds us why we keep choosing this life, even when the costs rise.
