Installing a new floor in an Edencraft is far from a simple task. This 565 build has reached the Joining Shed stage. After completing the stringers, full tank installation, foaming, leveling, and glassing, the floor is finally ready for a dry fit. Once the dry fitting is complete, both surfaces will be prepped. The base of the floor will be resin-coated, and the hull will be layered with chopped fiberglass and resin. With precision, the floor is then carefully placed in position and weighted down to create a strong chemical bond between the two surfaces. From this point, any gap between the floor liner and the hull will be filled with foam, sanded to perfection, and sealed with a layer of fibreglass. Watch how we join this 565 deck to the hull. The bond between a deck and the hull is a critical part of boat building process. On a clean surface our skilled boat builders fill the gap using a thick layer of bog that is levelled and glassed over whilst wet. These parts are joined using two layers of double bias and 450g chop strand matt. All the knees, bulk heads and shelves are glassed on both sides to ensure every structural component is laminated professionally. The joining process is performed throughout the entire boat over multiple days and requires a lot of time and patience to meet our high standards. Have you ever wondered how and why we apply the flecks of colour you see on our floor? On traditional flowcoat floors, fleck provides much needed grip to what would be an otherwise slippery surface. On our modern moulded floors, the grip is provided by our 'non-skid' pattern and the fleck is just there for it's good looks! It is the first thing we apply to the mould. Each colour is carefully sprinkled with a spray gun to ensure an even application before the next solid binding layer of gelcoat and in this case the customer's choice of Storm Grey. It may look bumpy on the mould, but it'll come out looking silky smooth when we pop this part.
