Snowbird is a term I heard a lot when in the US and it refers to people who live in the Northern States during the summer and then move South to Florida for the winter. It occured to me that while we don't get snowed in back in Australia I see exactly the same movement North from people in Melbourne and Sydney escaping the colder months and that this Riviera is an ideal boat to do that in. From an entertainmemt and liveaboard perspective this is a fantastic platform. She's also very easy and relaxing to operate from the primary helm with some of the best visability for a yacht of this size, making her a relaxing vessel in busy waterways. Sometimes the universe works in funny ways. I've been watching Technohull for years but never had an opportunity to truly study or experience the brand in person. Recently I was boating in Greece with some new mates of mine and it turns out they are buddies with Gerry the CEO of Technohull. Next thing i'm getting a full tour of the factory, a deep dive into the construction and build quality and the day after we did a little better with a brand new Technohull Alpha 50 running Quad Mercury 500R's for a full day of testing. I walked away with the impression that this is not just a high performance RIB. This could be a better alternative to some much more expensive super yacht tenders and ultra luxury Euro Day Boats on the market. Yes - it's without question you will be the fastest boat on the water. However you're also very well catered to thanks to some beautifully simple and elegant design. If you are one of those top 1% blokes with a good skill set behind the wheel and a very clear vision of what your boat days look like I think you're going to see some real value in this boat. Please tell me in the comments if you agree but I suspect some of you will see this as a cost saving exercise that delivers even more value when you attribute the performance and fun factor into the Alpha 50. I think it's fair to argue that this design makes more sense than a catamaran or trawler from an operational and living perspective in many of the worlds busy cruising grounds. I accept if you want to cross the Atlantic then this isn't the boat, but for many of you who are sticking to the Med or Caribbean then this boat is actually better and more user friendly in so many ways. The Marex 440 Gourmet is a very interesting design. This is a boat that will likely appeal to serious experienced boaters and new boaters alike. It's not every day that you come across a vessel where you say to yourself 'geeze that's a good idea' - but on the Marex I was saying that all day. This design which is also available in a 'Scandinavia' version that cuts the galley down to a normal size and opens up internal lounge space is a boat that can work for so many people in all kinds of environments. If you were going to ask me to bet on a future success then this Marex 440 would be one of my top 3 bets in this category. Great build quality, excellent functional design, nice to look at and a size that's both easy to handle at the helm but perfect for entertaining the whoile family. The Marex 440 Gourmet is a very interesting design. This is a boat that will likely appeal to serious experienced boaters and new boaters alike. She's packed with good ideas that will immediately make sense to anyone with experience on the water yet she's also very nice looking and extremely comfortable to spend time aboard. She's also designed to work in a global marketplace with the option of shaft drive - IPS drive and stern drive!
