Welcome back aboard Moor R & R for this week's Adventure! Episode 38 Join us for another unforgettable adventure aboard Moor R & R as we continue exploring the stunning beauty of Magnetic Island before setting sail for the incredible Orpheus Island. Our week begins with the famous Forts Walk, one of Magnetic Island's most popular hikes. Along the way, we explore the fascinating WWII fortifications and are lucky enough to spot three wild koalas in their natural habitat. We also discover the unique Wetlands Walk and Butterfly Walk, each offering a different side of this beautiful island. After spending a week soaking up everything Magnetic Island has to offer, it's time to lift the anchor and continue our journey north to Orpheus Island. The passage couldn't have gone much better, with both of us hooking fish at exactly the same time! As if that wasn't exciting enough, we were treated to an incredible wildlife display as whales frolicked alongside the boat, followed by sightings of majestic manta rays. Once we arrive at Orpheus Island, the adventures continue. We take the tender to visit the former Giant Clam Garden, an eco-tourism and conservation project established in the 1980s. Sadly, the giant clams were lost following the devastating floods and monsoonal rains in early 2025, but it's still a fascinating place to visit and learn about its history. To top it all off, Gary retrieves my very first fresh coconut for me to try, and we finish the week with one of the most unforgettable experiences yet—swimming with manta rays in crystal-clear water. It truly was a magical few days and one we'll never forget. Come along for the highs and lows of life at sea – the joy of community, the challenge of sailing, and all the fun we get up too !!! Welcome back aboard Moor R & R for this week's Adventure! Episode 36 After our stay in Bowen, with our electrical issues and generator finally repaired, we set sail for Cape Upstart. On the way, we're lucky enough to catch a couple of spotted mackerel. As the only boat to catch fish on the passage, we decide to share our catch with everyone else. Once at Cape Upstart, we head ashore to explore some beautiful hidden rock pools tucked away up a valley. They certainly don't disappoint! Although there wasn't enough water flowing to swim, the scenery alone made the hike worthwhile. From there, we enjoy a fantastic sail north to the stunning Magnetic Island. After dropping anchor, we head ashore to celebrate another successful passage with a well-earned drink. But things don't quite go to plan... We make a rookie mistake with the tender. We did the right thing by anchoring it a little offshore to stop it from being beached, but we forgot to check the tide. By the time we returned, both tenders were floating in water over waist deep! Hugh took one for the team, jumped in, and swam out to retrieve them before bringing them safely back to shore. Come along for the highs and lows of life at sea – the joy of community, the challenge of sailing, and all the fun we get up too !!! Welcome back aboard Moor R & R for this weeks Adventure! Episode 35 Our journey north towards Cape Gloucester takes an unexpected turn when our entire electrical system suddenly shuts down. We lose everything onboard, leaving us with no power and even no working anchor winch! After picking up a mooring buoy, we begin troubleshooting every possible cause. We reset the system, check connections, and try everything we can think of—but nothing seems to work. Just when we finally manage to bring the electrical system back to life, another problem appears... our generator refuses to run! With the generator pump motor seized, we need a replacement as quickly as possible. Luckily, one of our buddy boats is heading off from Airlie Beach the very next day and kindly picks up the new pump for us. Sometimes the cruising community really comes through! With our batteries dropping to just 38% and relying solely on solar power, we decide to sail to Bowen to meet our friends and hopefully get everything working again. In Bowen, we anchor in the beautiful Queens Bay, where the massive granite boulders lining the beach make for an incredible backdrop. It's amazing to see how different this coastline is from the Whitsundays. Once our friends arrive with the replacement pump, it's time to get our hands dirty, reinstall the new motor, and see if we can finally bring the generator back to life. Will we get everything working before continuing our journey north? You'll have to watch to find out! Come along for the highs and lows of life at sea – the joy of community, the challenge of sailing, and all the fun we get up too !!! Welcome back aboard Moor R & R! Episode 27 We fly back to Sanur, Bali, where we spend a few relaxing days soaking up the calm before the adventure truly kicks off again. Easy mornings, slow days, and a chance to reset before things get wild. Our first stop is the stunning Tukad Cepung Waterfall — and let’s just say we got absolutely drenched without even going for a swim. Tucked away inside a cave, this waterfall is an incredible sight and easily one of the highlights of our time in Bali. From there, we head into the rice fields where I face my fears on the sky bikes. Suspended high above the paddies, it was hands down one of the scariest things I’ve done, and I was very happy to see the end of that ride! To finish things off, we jump on four wheels for an unforgettable off-road adventure — racing through rice fields, splashing through muddy water, driving through tunnels, and even under waterfalls. Pure fun, plenty of laughs, and the perfect way to wrap up our Indonesia journey before heading back to the boat. Thanks for coming along with us 🤍 Come along for the highs and lows of life at sea – the joy of community, the challenge of sailing, and all the fun we get up too !!! Welcome back aboard Moor R & R! Episode 25 We’ve landed in Lombok ✨ Picked up the car and pointed it north, heading straight for the heart of the island. This leg of our journey takes us through Lombok’s remote centre — winding roads, lush rainforest, quiet villages, and landscapes that feel beautifully untouched. Our first stop was Tetebatu, where friendly locals welcomed us with warm smiles and not great English. We explored the Monkey Forest, wandered through emerald rice terraces, and discovered a magical hidden waterfall tucked deep in the jungle. Some of the roads we travelled definitely didn’t feel like they were made for a car… but we trusted Google Maps anyway 😅 With plenty of wrong turns and getting lost more than once, the adventure only got better. Along the way, we stumbled across a stunning blue lake that stopped us in our tracks. After days of rain, we continued on to Benang Stokel and Benang Kelambu waterfalls. The power of the water was incredible — thundering, alive, and absolutely beautiful. Nature at its wildest. With memories full and the road still calling, we set our sights west, ready for the next chapter of our Lombok journey. Welcome back aboard Moor R & R! Episode 20 In this episode, we say goodbye to the beautiful island of Scawfell and continue our journey further south to Percy Island, a place rich in sailing history and unforgettable memories. We visit the legendary Percy Island Yacht Club (the Percy Hilton) and leave a little piece of Moor R & R behind in the hut — adding our memorabilia to the countless boats that have passed through before us. It’s a special moment and a reminder of how connected the sailing community truly is. Behind the beach, we discover something completely unexpected — a network of quiet creeks that lead us deep into the mangroves. Exploring by paddle board, we stumble upon a breathtaking tree system that feels just like a Secret Everglades. Still, wild, and incredibly special, it’s one of those places that stops you in your tracks. We then head toward Island Head Creek to try our luck crabbing… but the ocean has other plans, and our pots are raided before we get a chance 😅.
