For Sailors/Cruisers the Rio Dulce has been called the "Velcro River" and for so many good reasons. Basically it's hard to leave because of it's beauty and being a safe harbour. But it's mid December and time for this sailing Trio to say a fond farewell. We are off the dock and making our way to the Panama Canal! Good bye to the town of Fronteras. As far as Fireworks for Protection goes... when we sail for the Panama Canal we will have to navigate through the Pirate waters off the coast of Honduras. We don't carry weapons onboard so should we be chased by pirates... one line of defence (among others) is to toss large fireworks (what look like mini dynamite sticks) at our attackers. It's paranoia at this point, but defence just the same. Getting 1st world sailing supplies in a 3rd world country can be challenging. In this episode it's December and we're provisioning in Rio Dulce Guatemala, we share our thoughts on and give a short tour of the marina that we kept Saltair3 in, we get a new awesome Mantus anchor, and we share this Sailing Trio's season's plans of "where to next" for us. In order to get back to our catamaran "Saltair3" in the Rio Dulce of Guatemala, you must first fly into Guatemala city, (the capital) and then you take a crazy and long 8 hour bus ride (8 hours if you're lucky) back to the Rio, where the marinas and our catamaran are. But before returning to "Saltair3" in Rio Dulce Guatemala, where we left if for Hurricane season, we spent a few weeks in the ancient city of Antigua learning Spanish in an immersion school. While we were there we did an EPIC and exhausting hike to the top of the Acatenango Volcano. There are 37 Volcanoes in Guatemala and 3 are in the Antigua area. 2 of the 3 are active! It was a 5-6 hour hike to the top 13,044 ft at a consistent 45 degree angle of incline! At this altitude we experienced altitude sickness for the first time. It's a real thing! In fact aviation requires the use of supplemental oxygen at altitudes above 10,000 feet. The tour company that guided us up the Volcano, keeps a camp at the summit and this is where we slept for this 2 day and one night insane hike up, and boy it was COLD up there! P.S. We had to carry food and water for our meals. Cole led the group right to the top, and Brad and Krista brought up the rear. LOL! An Amazing Experience for sure... Hurricane season is coming to an end and we are back on Saltair3 in the Rio Dulce of Guatemala. In this episode we prep SA3 for another epic season! Un pickling the water maker, putting the sails back on, minor repairs and some fun in the fresh waters of tropical Guatemala. Stay Tuned because we are leaving the Caribbean and heading for the Pacific! That means transiting the Panama Canal...

It's been almost 8 years since we sold almost everything we owned, moved onto a sailboat and set sail to see the world on our Catamaran Saltair3. That was 2014 and Cole was just 8 yeas old. We're now back on Vancouver Island. Many of you won't even remember where or when the adventure started for this sailing Trio... This is a hybrid video of where we came from, why we did it and some fun footage of our time in one of our favourite Caribbean nations, the Dominican Republic. We have since sold Saltair 3 and moved back to our home on Vancouver Island where we have our summer food truck business and a tiny home in Cassidy near the Nanaimo airport. Instead of a sailing catamaran we now have a small power boat, an airplane and motorcycles both off road and street cycles, all to try and satisfy our adventure adrenaline habit Lol! In this episode; Sailing exploration doesn't get better than this! We're at anchor in Cayo Quemado up the Rio Dulce of Guatemala and we've made friends with a local Guatemalan family. Off the back of SA3 we bought some of their crafts and they invited us to see their little river home (Casa) up a maze of estuaries connecting to the River. So the following day after a nice breakfast we follow them in our dinghy through gorgeous back waters leading to their home. This is what exploring by Sailboat is all about! In this video; It's a rough 1st night as we sail down the coast of Caribbean Mexico. After getting our Dental work done at Isla Mujeres Mexico we set ail for Guatemala on a 3 day passage. But the seas are large and confused with a North wind blowing over the North bound Gulf Stream current known as the Yucatan current. www.triosmacandcheese.com Food Truckin' is full of road trips to fun Fairs and Festivals. Fairs that are full of happy people. A captive audience of thousands with money in their pockets and hunger in their stomachs and a craving desire to try out new and fun Food Truck food! We're always parked on a nice grassy field with live music playing on the nearby stage. The other food trucks around us are willing to trade food, and there is always a bunch of fun activities to take part in when the food truck is slow... It's serious hard work, but it's something we love. This video is a taste of last year's Food Truck Summer. This year Covid 19 made Food Truckin' a completely different scenario. Sales were 70% less than last year and that was working much longer hours as we tried to bring in as many dollars as we could to keep us afloat.
