A day in the life with Dutch Olympic 49er sailors Bart Lambriex van Aanholt & Floris van De Werken 🇳🇱 Three-time consecutive World Champions (2021, 2022 & 2023), Bart and Floris are in Palma de Mallorca preparing for the 2026 Trofeo Princesa Sofía, one of the biggest events of the season. This year looks a little different for Bart. Alongside his sailing campaign, he's adapting to life on the road with his wife Odile van Aanholt, Olympic champion and 49erFX sailor, and their newborn daughter Kato. Thankfully, family support is never far away, with grandparents joining the trip to help look after Kato while training and racing take priority. Follow along from sunrise to sunset as the boys start the day early, head to the boat park for registration, photoshoots, physio sessions, and boat preparation before joining the fleet on the water for training races ahead of the regatta. After sailing, it's back to shore to de-rig, sticker the boat, recover, and recharge. While Bart enjoys some family time, Floris heads to the gym to squeeze in one final session before another day of racing. A behind-the-scenes look at the dedication, teamwork, and balance required to compete at the highest level of sailing. #TrofeoPrincesaSofia #RoadToLA2028 #49erSailing #DutchSailing #OlympicSailing #PalmaDeMallorca #DayInTheLife #WorldChampions #SailingLife #BehindTheScenes

49er and FX Fleets Sweden’s Vilma Bobeck & Ebba Berntsson mastered the conditions best, winning the first two races and finishing second in the last to jump into third and open a gap on those behind. Australia’s Laura Harding and Annie Wilmot continued their march up the leaderboard, hopping over Italy’s Sofia Giunchiglia & Giulia Schio, who could only finish nineteenth in the last race, but stayed second overall. As all others struggled, consistent excellence also rewarded France’s Erwan Fischer & Clément Péquin with the lead after they finished 3, 1, 2 in their three races to move ahead of Ireland’s Robert Dickson & Sean Waddilove. Erwan Fisdher & Clément Péquin (FRA) “We had three races in conditions between 16 and 18 knots, with quite a bit of chop. We’re really happy with how we sailed. Tomorrow, the final day of the qualifying rounds, the conditions will be very different again with a southwesterly wind, so we’ll have to adapt. The idea is to maintain a good mood, get good starts, and continue working on communication and the mental aspects. Winning a medal here is a goal. We love the Hyères sailing area; the wind is constantly changing, it’s really great. We’re determined to perform well here. The World Championships are in three weeks, the 49er fleet is strong, and the level of competition is exceptional. We know it won’t be easy to win a medal. But we have the opportunity, and we’re going to give it our all.” credits: Icarus and FFvoile

After a week of racing in challenging offshore winds Saturday’s medal showdowns for the 10 Olympic class titles at the 55th Trofeo Princesa Sofía Mallorca by FERGUS Hotels look set to be blessed with perfect conditions. A moderate sea breeze is forecast to build early which, accompanied by warm Spring sunshine, should create a great arena as the regatta showcases the new formats which are expected to be used at the LA2028 Olympic regatta. As the last chances to qualify for Saturday’s Finals Series played out, Good Friday afternoon on the Bay of Palma offered the best racing conditions so far, hopefully a foretaste of what’s ahead. While the Kite and iQFOiL medals decider format are largely unchanged, it is still the top ten in each of the dinghy, skiff and multihull classes which go through to contest the Palma titles. But now there are scheduled to be two consecutive medal races with points from the Elimination Series carried forward. American pair Nevin Snow and Ian MacDiarmid lead the 49er fleet after a valuable recovery from an early start in second of the skiffs’ three races today. After having to return across the start line they battled to a 12th which they added to a race win and a fifth to lie just one point up on Germany’s Richard Shultheis and Fabian Rieger. Asked about the new Finals Series format Snow smiled, “I have not let myself get there, I didn’t want to think about the ten-boat race too early, so I need to go home and figure it out. I am feeling good about it. We are sailing well, we sailed well in training. We need to just stay in the zone and take it as it comes.” French duo Erwan Fischer and Clément Pequin, the 2024 world champions and last year’s Sofía class winner missed the cut, finishing 13th with a 9,9,12 today while the Netherlands’ triple world champion Bart Lambriex and Floris Van De Werken squeeze in in 9th thanks to a fourth in the last race. “These guys they will come on strong I’m sure.” Observed Snow, “I don’t think they have been training as much as they used to when they were winning world championships. When they are going for gold medals they will start ratcheting it up. But we are super happy, we have been training hard. We have good boat speed – like I am sure everyone says – and the conditions here have been super shifty. Our speed has improved in all conditions. We are focused on the right details and in terms of big goals to accomplish we are just ticking away at them.”

Day in the Life with Erwan & Clément 🇫🇷⛵️ Ahead of the first World Cup of the season in Palma de Mallorca, we take you behind the scenes with the French 49er World Champs for a full day of training, competition, and a bit of fun along the way. The day kicks off with a relaxed breakfast at the hotel alongside the rest of the French 49er squad—fueling up before a big day ahead. But it’s not straight to the water just yet… first stop: the golf course ⛳️ A friendly (and slightly competitive) round with teammates and the coach sets the tone. After that, it’s time to switch gears. A quick sandwich at the boat park to recharge, then straight into prep mode, rigging, tuning, and getting everything dialed in. Out on the water, things get serious. Intense training sessions focused on testing new equipment and sharpening boat handling skills as they prepare for the upcoming racing. Back ashore, it’s time for a debrief, breaking down the session, fine-tuning details, and planning the next steps. But the day’s not over yet… a bit of paddel to unwind 🎾 followed by a well-earned dinner at an Indian restaurant to wrap it all up. From early fuel-ups to late-night laughs, this is what it takes behind the scenes. 🎥 Don’t forget to like, comment, and subscribe for more inside access to life on the 49er circuit!
