Is petrol dead? Electric motors from 7.5Kw up to 35Kw from a well established marine brand. It's taken a while but finally Mercury have gone electric. Powering everything from dinghies up to decent sized boats the Avator's can be used with or without tiller and are compatible with external throttles. We have a 1967 Bristol 27 sailboat for sale this week - designed by Carl Alberg. It has a Monitor Windvane steering system, a really nice/solid dinghy, and an AIS-equipped radio as nice bonuses for a classic sailboat.

A young man graduated from high school and decided he wanted to take a year off and take this classic sailboat and go solo sailing. He took the Bristol 27 and sailed it from Massachusetts to the Caribbean and back over a 9-month period. At $6,000, It's a really fair price given the additional equipment. After 3.5 days of sailing, in the dark and with magnificent views we reached Gibraltar. Technically we are still in Spain - Marina Alcadeisa - as it’s cheaper and easier without check-in and walking distance from Gibraltar. After some damage, that occurred during the passage is fixed, we are off to explore - THE ROCK :))
It was truly impressive - and so much to see - from the top of the world views, very entertaining Barbary macaques to St Michael's Cave and way more…
And after all is done we are on a quick hm… controversial mission - but you will have to watch to find out…

When Trent ordered our Leopard 45 catamaran we were excited to be buying a yacht with a design that we loved. It was reassuring to hear at point of sale that ongoing construction issues had apparently been resolved. Trent said that he consciously chose to buy a yacht with high hull number thinking that it would reduce issues.

As promised, the outcome of our post Cape Town warranty experience with Robertson and Caine. What's left now is to see how Leopard evolves as a business and responds to cruisers to help them achieve the dream they worked hard and set out for. Robertson and Caine with their upcoming sale also seem to have a fresh opportunity to clean house and train staff to be better equipped to offer a more empathetic response to live aboard issues.

How to tie the Water Bowline knot 🥨 : (Vulcan method). I really like this knot because, well, I like super-charged knots, and this is a bowline with a bit of extra spinach.

It's really useful for tying off your 🚤 tender to the dock (a Bowline knot can slip if it's pushed and pulled) . It's called the Water Bowline because it likes getting wet. Perfect!

If you use the Vulcan method, (see our video how to tie a Spock Bowline as well), it's dead easy.
...
First off, make that Vulcan Salute 🖖 and remember to mutter "Live Long and Prosper" under your breath. Not too loud otherwise the other yachties might start staring at you.
...
Now loop your working end round your 3rd and 4th fingers like you would in the Bowline. Now make another loop around your 1st and second fingers.
...
If you are tying off to a ring, this would be a good time to feed it through and back.
...
Now you are just going to get your 🐰 rabbit (working end) up and down 2 holes instead of one. Easy! When you come back round the standing end, just follow the line back and you have your turbo-charged Bowline. If a dinghy drifts off the dock, I bet it's not yours, you'll be the one smirking over a cold beer.

Any skipper can do a mistake!
It's how you deal with it that defines you as a skipper. I have seen a lot being here and it's not like I try to make fun of someone else mistake. It's meant as something to think about especially when arriving at a busy harbor, bay, or anchorage.

Things are not always as it appears and classic mistakes in eyeball navigation piloting are easily done. It has been a lot of catamarans hitting the reefs here. Why it appears like only catamarans hitting the reefs here might have an explanation but a wild guess is the most popular rental.
Sometimes it has been so predictable like I was just expecting it to happen and took my phone up to film it as an example. I would never dare to talk about this topic myself if it was not for the fact I have done lots of mistakes and hopefully learned from them myself. I have also been on the other side and assisted a three-digit number of boats taking in water after groundings and accidents. So would say I have some experience in what should be done and not. Just pretending nothing happened is not a good strategy or decision. This action and examples were too precise and good not to be shared even risking being mistaken for making fun of others. I'm a sailor and making fun of other sailors is bad karma. Using it as an example to learn from it is in my opinion different.

ABOUT THIS CHANNEL:
I'm trying to sail solo around the world in my Bavaria 55 Cruiser, making videos whenever I have time for it. Most of the time I sail singlehanded but occasionally I do have sailing friends onboard. Still in the Caribbean due to Covid and was supposed to be in Asia by now.

Again - no wind, which is not the ideal case but at least the wind is not against us. So we will take what we get and as any sailor knows - planning exact dates further distance away - we are in the grace of the wind Gods.
Will we make it to Corfu, or even bigger question - will we be able to get to Croatia, Korcula in time to see our friends?
