The trip that we were so excited about was coming up fast and we were looking forward to it so much! Then couple days before taking off I find out that Lithuanian citizens require a visa which is a lengthy process and we decide to take off and go to Dar es Salaam, South African embassy and see if we can find a solution. We take 8 hour bus ride and admire the countryside.
Dar es Salaam being the biggest city in Tanzania - pretty fascinating and we find some really cool places and meet absolutely phenomenal people.
But do we get to go to South Africa?
I guess you will have to watch the video to find that out.

PS biggest apologies for poor sound we were really struggling finding a nice quiet place where we can film and share with you. Unfortunately that wasn't so easy I hope you will forgive us.

This is one of “A day in Life” series of our videos - we’ve already done “A day in life in the anchorage”, and “A day in life on a hard/ in a boatyard). As you might imagine all these days a a bit different…
Here we are on a 480NM sail that should take about 3 days and 4 hours or so.. We start with doing the night watch shifts and start day as normal - setting up the sails and having breakfast until we find out that the video that I finished up in a rush and uploaded while having internet is corrupted by sound errors (I should have watched it after it was “cooked” and before uploading but that’s another 30 minutes) and we made a decision to fix it and take off the way closer to the island where we can get internet signal and re-upload it. We do not have time nor knowledge if it’s a suitable place for anchorage so that was out of questions. The rest you will see in the video…

This week there was A LOT going on around our NEW :P Leopard 45 catamaran and the Trinidad shipyard we live in!

➣ We leak tested windows on another Leopard Catamaran.
➣ A storm hit Chaguaramas in Trinidad, grounding, damaging and putting holes in boats, even totally sinking one that was local DIY refloated and dragged out at the shipyard on film.
➣ Repairs and boat work continued on our yacht SV Liger, with our super gel coat finisher Nino rectifying some defects from over zealous sanding and other work done on the bows ready for our new artwork to be painted onto the hull
➣ A temporary new crew member joined the family, a gorgeous little Trinidadian stray dog we called Cheems, who's been transformed by a bit of love, effort and kindness

On this episode Captain Noah Peffer, the ships dog Toni and myself continue our cruise around Penobscot Bay. We make way for Pulpit harbor and anchor up at Ministers Creek. I enjoyed a swim and we marveled at the amount of fish that were in the bay. The next day we headed back to Noah's home port on Isleboro.

Sailing around the world is risky and no matter how hard you try, you’re never going to completely eliminate that risk. But what if you could buy a boat that eliminated as much risk as humanly possible, without compromising comfort.
Well then you’d be buying a very expensive boat
Designing and building a Bluewater boat is always a compromise between three things; Seaworthiness, comfort, and affordability. For most of human history, Seaworthiness was by far the most important factor when choosing a boat for long distance voyaging. But today the vast majority of new “bluewater” boats are designed from the ground up, to be sold at boat shows. Seaworthiness is something that is not very marketable because green sailors find it hard to recognize at a glance. So boats that value seaworthiness struggle to compete when their interiors are smaller and their price tags are bigger, than all the other boats at the show.
But there is one up and coming boat builder that refuses to even go to boat shows for one simple reason. Kraken yachts, lead by it’s founder, Dick Beaumont, have decided that they will stop at nothing to build the most seaworthy, and yet very comfortable, long distance blue water cruiser in the world. This week we had the chance to tour the Kraken yard here in Turkey as well as to do a full review of their flagship model, the Kraken 50.
So what exactly do you get when you spend over a million dollars on a bluewater boat?
And, the question that’s been in our minds ever since we did this tour, is it time for us to upgrade?
