Hello Friends,
Welcome to Part 2 of the big Galley redesign and rebuild. On this episode we get into cutting out all of the radiant barrier foam we will be using for the Icebox Project. Once it was all cut out and placed we were able to make the templates for the actual icebox itself.

Yacht Delivery Chronicles: Episode #115 : The Black Lotus
Hello Friends,
This is a "one off episode" of Yacht Delivery Chronicles documenting a single day passage we did recently delivering a small yacht from Marina del Rey to Los Angeles Harbor.
In December I was contacted by my former boss who said he wanted to give me his 1965 26' Cheoy Lee "Frisco Flyer" named The Black Lotus. The boat needs to have the teak decks removed as they are beyond saving at this point and the foredeck's core is a complete loss so that all needs to be replaced. It also needs a bottom job and all of the seacocks replaced and is past due time for new standing rigging. All of these factors considered my old boss said they couldn't justify keeping it to only use it a few times a year and asked if I wanted it.
On the plus side she is a full keeled solid fiberglass hulled boat, has a solid working Perkins diesel engine and would make an amazing daysailer or long weekend boat for the local islands. The projects could be tackled slowly as she motors and sails perfectly has she is and as long as someone doesn't mind brightwork she is an absolute beauty.
I love this boat very much and I a near religious believer in "Classic Plastics" and beautiful old boats so I agreed and set out to figure out how I could find this boat a new home and steward. I was working for my friend Dyer when it came time for me to get the boat moved from Marina del Rey and he told me he was interested in getting a boat and really wanted a project he could get into. I explained to him what needed to take place with this boat and said I would give it to him if he promised to save her. Dyer talked to his girlfriend Kristen and they decided they wanted to take on the project.
So this is the video of the day Camille, Dyer and myself took the Black Lotus from Marina del Rey to Los Angeles Harbor to her new slip right next to Triteia !
You can see a very early video I made of the Black Lotus from 2015 of a daysail we did in the Santa Monica Bay here: https://youtu.be/W9gr8FFaQzI

Hello Friends,
We received a gift box from our fiends Will and Sarah Curry ( https://www.instagram.com/sailing.kaia ) at Hydrovane that included a much needed replacement Vane cover. On this video we show you how to fit the cover and I talk about the unlikely origins of Windvane self steering systems, which revolutionized ocean sailing for solo sailors and short handed crews on small boats.
You can see my original install video here: https://youtu.be/5uOeA6YxAC0

Episode #199 : Exploring the wild end of Catalina Island
Hello Friends,
This episode finds Mister Steady and myself bound for the wild and roughed anchorage of Person's Landing on Catalina Island's West End. The forecast was favorable with light southerlies for several days so we decided to hit this exposed anchorage that we have never visited.
Making our way through the kelp and finding a spot to set the hook in the long slow Pacific swells was pretty easy. We anchored in 20ft of water with 5 scope out and stayed on a single hook for the night.
The anchorage was striking and beautiful and even if you are not a boater this campsite would be worth the trek.
We will be exploring a number of new to us anchorages as we await Camille's return to Southern California, at which time we will push north up to the SF Bay area to cruise and explore.

Episode #222 : Season 8 : The Hawaiian Adventures
Hello Friends,
This week takes us into Oahu's interior to do the 14.7 mile long hike up to the famous "Stairway to Heaven" / Haiku Stairs. We go up the legal way taking the Moanalua Valley Trail. I was joined by professional trail guide Tanya Wilson ( https://www.instagram.com/_sunshine_808 ) who informed me this was her 12 hike up the 2000+ft elevation gain trail to the legendary lookout.
Thank you Tanya for taking me on this amazing hike, I don't think I would have had the confidence to do it alone and now I know I can do a hike of this length and intensity without meeting the grim reaper at the end.
More on the Haiku Stairs can be found here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Haiku_Stairs

Episode #226 : Season 8 : The Hawaiian Adventures : Taking the Anchor For A Walk
Hello Friends,
On this weeks episode I haul up anchor and make my way through the patchwork of coral reefs and point the bow towards the world famous Kaneohe Sandbar.
My friend Cy has anchored his Mason 43 here countless times and talked me through the process: Motor up slowly watching the depth sounder and the color of the water. Once you feel your hull "bump" the sand drop the anchor and pay out about 10 ft of chain. back down to slightly set the anchor, then pay out more scope and swim ashore and carry the anchor out as far as you like. (if the tradewinds were blowing this would have required 2 anchors to do solo, one to hold you in place while you carried out the primary)
It was SOOOO strange to intentional drive into a submerged beach and jump off the bow into 2ft of water! I had a wonderful 3 days anchored at the sandbar and look forward to returning!

Episode #202 : A wonderful spot on the Front Side of Catalina Island.
Hello Friends,
On this episode we depart the very rolly Rippers Cove and make way for a smoother berths. We enjoyed a slow sailing down passing Goat Harbor as the same swell marched into the anchorage.
Consulting our cruising guide we pointed for Moonstone Cove at Whites Landing. Dropping the hook in 30ft of water surrounded by beautiful cliffs and protection from both the wind and the swells. Moonstone Cove ended up being easily in my top two favorite anchorages on Catalina Island.

Episode 388 : Season 12 : Sailing Australia
Hello Friends,
On this episode we hauled up at Digby island and had a 10 hour 44NM passage to St. Bees where we had a very noisy night on the mooring ball as it slammed continuously into the hull over and over and over.
We had read about the Koalas on St. Bees that are studied for their unique success as an isolated population. You can read more about there here: https://www.abc.net.au/news/20....22-09-04/island-myst
We found a really neat dry tidal lagoon onshore and some dense bush with butterflies, wild orchids and a shy kangaroo. We also found A KOALA!!!!!! My first time seeing one in the wild!!!!!

Episode 390 : Season 12 : Sailing Australia
Hello Friends,
On this episode we are enjoying the peaceful anchorage of Nara Inlet on Hook Island whose landscape and stillness reminds us of New Zealand. Hearing of some nearby Rock Art we head off on a dinghy mission to hike up to a cave and see the Aboriginal art left by the Ngaro People who inhabited these islands from more than 9000 years.
We then make our way further into the inlet and hike (climb) a waterfall to take a dip in its freshwater pools up top.

Episode 398 : Season 13 : Sailing Indonesia
Hello Friends,
On this episode we head out to catch a minibus to the next town to check out the market and to see more of the island. While we were out we got a text message no captain ever wants to receive "Triteia is dragging" We were a few miles away when the squall hit and luckily our American friends Ricky and Hannah had just dropped anchor near us after they arrived from Australia. Ricky went over and paid out more scope on Triteia and got her safe. We are so lucky they were there!!!!
The next day we made our way back to town to start the challenging process of getting water in a developing country. Gone were the days of nice fuel docks and public docks with drinking water from a tap. If you cant afford a water maker this is reality of sailing in wild places.

(UPDATE: 12/31/21) This video was previously only viewable via my Patron page. To close out the New Year I am making it publicly viewable. These are the outtakes and some of the extra footage from the crossing Alone Across An Ocean video ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1AZXXKj0p0s )
Hello Friends,
This is an episode of clips I couldn't fit into the long format video but felt they would be of interest to sailors. I shot over 300 video files over the 32 days at sea and A LOT of stuff ended up on the cutting room floor. This episode is a collection of some of those outakes. Its a rough edit and meant to be a supplement to the Alone Across an Ocean episode. I have formatted it with the day headers so you have an idea of the timeline the same as I did with the longer video.
The drone footage has no sound on it because no drone footage has sound unless the editor adds some in post. That footage is me fighting the drones automatic attempt to return to the location it took off from several miles astern of Triteia, a function it would not let me turn off before I flew it because the GPS signal in the ocean on my iPhone was so weak. I crash landed it into the cockpit and suffered some pretty bad cuts to my hands trying to remove the battery since it would not shut down. It maybe broken from the crash but at least it didn't end up in the ocean.
Other than that its mostly just footage of me talking about ships business.

FRIDAY BONUS VIDEO: Testing my old PFD.... the results aren't good!!!
Hello Friends,
This is a short little video I shot a while ago showing me test my 5 year old Automatic Inflatable PFD (Personal Floatation Device) from West Marine.
After jumping in the water a few seconds passed before it was activated and then once it inflated it only released from half of PFD leaving the other half still inside and the whole thing choking me. As I mention in the video, I have had this PFD since 2015 and never tested it or serviced it so I might be partially to blame for the results, I will for sure be breaking the velcro on my PFD's once a year from now on to insure this doesn't happen in an emergency.

Episode 392 : Season 12 : Sailing Australia
Hello Friends,
On this episode We depart the Whitsunday Islands and continue our sail north. One of our stops was Magnetic Island where we visited the Rock Wallabies!
Our Next stop was Dunk Island, as we had heard we could find FREE hot water showers on this inhabited island. Dunk Island featured an another abandoned resort and a fancy "Glamping" resort that was slowly being built (which is why there are free hot water showers) We then pushed on to Cairns and then to Mackay Reef.

Hello Friends,
On this episode I explore the incredible Coral Gardens near the island of Taha'a. This was easily one of the most fun things I have done in my life. Coral Gardens is a hoa (water that flows between small islands aka Motus) with a fast running current that allows you to drift snorkel through the shallow pass weaving your way in and out of coral! SOOO MUCH FUN!!!! and really beautiful!
