The Yachting Malta Ltd EurILCA Masters race went underway this afternoon just off Sliema seafront when the ILCA 6 and ILCA 7 fleets managed to fit in two races. The approximate 8 knots of wind, and negligible swell allowed the fleet to fit in two races. Unfortunately after the second race, the wind dropped to 5knots resulting in the fleet return back to its base at the Royal Malta Yacht Club. The ILCA 6 fleet saw Rob Cage (GBR) and Vadim Yahkhinson win a race each, with Cage leading the standings for the day with 3 points. The larger, ILCA 7 fleet saw Christoph Marsano (AUT) and Aristos Chatzistamatiou (GRE) take two wins, however it was Wolfgang Gerz (GER) who matched Marsano’s points tally, both finishing the day with five points each.
Don’t let their cute eyes fool you! The peacock mantis #shrimp has one of the most powerful punches in the animal kingdom. Its club-like appendages can strike with the speed of a bullet, reaching up to 23 metres per second (about 50 miles per hour). This punch is so forceful that it can break through the shells of #crabs, #clams, and even aquarium glass. The speed of the strike also creates cavitation bubbles, which produce a second impact when they collapse, effectively doubling the mantis shrimp's punch power. ~~~~ #ScubaDiving #Liveaboard #DiveTrips #liveaboardlife #MarineBiodiversity #seacritters #UWPMacro
