We sail on the good ship Saracen, a Beneteau Oceanis 473 from 2006. Out journey started in Scotland in early 2023 and our ultimate goal is to sail around the globe …..slowly. We make these videos mostly for family and friends and to create a record of our adventures for ourselves so that we can look back at them later in life, were not in it to make money (way to hard). Until now, the yard was offering an optional helm station featuring a retractable T-Top for protection, but aboard the 62, there’s an immense 538-square foot (50 m²) flybridge that remains fixed. This generous surface area provides space for a bar, galley, dining table and large bench-seating for 10 to 12 people. The flybridge is of course covered by a vast T-Top, which not only provides protection but, above all, is suitable for installing an optimal surface area of solar panels. But the manufacturer goes a step further than the classic open fly version - which is the one we got to test at Cannes - as this third level can also be converted into a closed saloon or owner’s suite. The drivetrain chosen for this model is identical to that of the Silent 60: despite its displacement now approaching 40 tons, the 62 is capable of covering 100 nautical miles in 100% electric mode - at reduced cruising speed, of course.
