The finish to Race 3 of the annual Narrows Regatta on Strangford Lough was a quick reach to the finish after the breeze picked up and pivoted 180 degrees. It was next to impossible for the J109 GTR to match it with the VX1 Sports boats which blasted past on the way back to Portaferry. The leading VX1 was in complete control as it fought to stay flat while keeping the spinnaker up to avoid having to drop which would have made for a much slower run to the finish. The J109 GTR could not compete in this race but went on to take the overall series win with a consistent performance across the weekend. It still blows my mind that sailing into the wind even works. It feels like a small miracle every time?!! Sailing upwind is still my least favorite thing we do on the boat lol. Watch how the bow slams into the waves.. now imagine trying to sleep through that & yeah. You pretty much don't. Sailors usually follow the trade winds to avoid going against the wind.. but sometimes you've just got to face it. This was a SEMI fun upwind sail.. and pretty satisfying to see the numbers and watch how well La Vagabonde performs. - Elay xx
