With the ever-increasing explosion of foiling into the sailing community Australian Sailing is working to develop programs and resources to support sailors and clubs to get involved in this new and exciting space. One of the first initiatives is the development of FOIL-LABs which are day long introductory sessions allowing participants to experience and learn about foiling. FOIL-LABs provide a safe space for sailors to learn and interact with a new type of sailing experience and equip themselves with new knowledge to take on foiling classes. Sailors will learn the fundamentals that drive a hydrofoils performance, as well learn about the body and physical relationships that offer a path to mastery. Mastering the basics gives more options to have more fun, more often. It also allows sailors to chase performance in a range of modern performance sailing classes in a fun and fulfilling way. This week we skipped our weekly video as we have been busy with home renovations and simply lack of sailing. However, we never miss an opportunity to embrace natures beauty, this time in the form of a common dolphin family swimming by our anchorage. Two of the four adults had younglings with them, who they seem to be teaching. Pretty cool to spot them by your front door ! Nature is awesome and nature needs us as much as we need it ! Perhaps modern technology will and already is able to show us the incredible similarities we all share, the complex social behaviours and interactions, the meaning of family and so much more :) Ps. Che non è una parolaccia, ma il termine per descrivere il tensionamento delle sartie, i cavi di acciaio che sorreggono l’albero. Come sapete, un lungo viaggio ci attende e stiamo facendo tutto il necessario per condurlo in sicurezza. Siamo agitati per la partenza? Abbastanza. Il ritorno in Europa sembra essere la parte più impegnativa del viaggio, così dicono tutti i velisti con cui parliamo. Ma le uniche tre persone che lo hanno già fatto con cui abbiamo chiacchierato ci hanno assicurati che potrebbe essere anche più tranquillo dell’andata e noi vogliamo affidarci al loro parere. Spero in tanti avvistamenti marini, in albe e tramonti da togliere il fiato e in lunghi momenti di pace che solo l’oceano sconfinato sa trasmettere. Sono questi i pensieri che ci accompagnano mentre lavoriamo al pc fino a tardi, per recuperare il tempo che abbiamo dedicato al rigging e per portarci avanti per i prossimi giorni. La partenza si avvicina. Per aiutare anche voi a rendervi conto di quanto sia alle porte l’oceano Atlantico vi dico che la prossima volta che butterò la canna da pesca in acqua in cerca di una squisita lampuga (ovvero il primo momento disponibile) sarà quando partiremo per attraversare. Fa sembrare tutto molto più vicino, non è così? Adesso che abbiamo qualche giorno per parlarne, c’è qualcosa che vi piacerebbe vedere o leggere della traversata?
