Légèrement plus long et plus large que le Gunboat 68 - ce modèle termine sa carrière - le nouveau catamaran est dans le même temps coiffé d'une nacelle plus grande et surtout d'un vaste flybridge, une première ! L'objectif est donc de proposer dans la famille Gunboat un luxueux multiyacht confortable et rapide. Le 72 reste évidemment un catamaran très performant, capable de marcher à la vitesse du vent dès 8 n?uds réels. Comparé au véloce 68, il s'alourdit de plus de 10 tonnes malgré un soin extrême quant au choix des matériaux et la qualité de construction? mais le plan de voilure donne donner le change : il est plus puissant que celui du Gunboat 68 Racing - 288 m2 au près contre 252, 450 m2 au portant contre 435.
