Dolphins off the Isle of Rum, on the west coast of Scotland. On a trip with Sail Scotland members Moonshadow Yacht Charters Ltd. Scotland offers sailing as it should be… there’s space and freedom. And the choice to do a lot – or do next to nothing – in this spectacular setting. It’s uncrowded and unspoilt, and life here moves at a different pace. People come specially to see basking sharks, puffins, seals, dolphins and eagles. They sail. They walk along beaches and coastal paths, explore local history and photograph their surrounds. They eat fresh seafood at stylish cafes and vibrant marinas. They enjoy the friendly traditional pubs. They browse shops in bustling coastal towns and villages. They picnic on beaches that are near-deserted, even in the height of summer. Or just sit and watch the tides, the sunsets and the stars. Life to leeward can be wet and wild for the Jib Trimmer. Eyes ahead and up is the only way to roll to keep the sail shape right. The waves were short and sharp on the way out of Strangford Lough as the J109 GTR bounces over the bar on it way to victory in the 2024 Ardglass Race. The team at Bottom Up Boats hope you are enjoying the short bits from the 2024 racing season.
