La costruzione della peschiera stessa è avvolta nel mistero, con le sue enormi mura che sembrano essere state fatte per sfidare il tempo e le forze della natura. Alcuni dicono che le pietre fossero state portate da terre lontane, mentre altri sostengono che siano state benedette da Poseidone in persona, per garantire che la peschiera fosse sempre piena di pesci e che il mare circostante fosse generoso.
