One of the most intimidating things for sailors and boaters pulling into Fort Lauderdale for the first time is dealing with the network of opening bridges on the Intracoastal Waterway. In Fort Lauderdale and the surrounding areas on the ICW the bridges open on a schedule with a request over the VHF radio. They monitor channel 9, and open every thirty minutes upon request. With the topping lift stuck at the top of the mast and and the spare halyard need for a kit peel the only option was to go up the mast and get it. Our bowman who is never one to do things by half decided the stop off for a quick pole walk on the way down to reconnect and grab the spare halyard had the team on Redline Racing back in the game.
