What truly makes someone a competent sailor? It’s not just about passing a test or reading a manual. True competence is built on a foundation of three critical pillars: Knowledge, Skills, and Experience. While knowledge gives you the theory, and skills give you the capability, experience is what prepares you for the unexpected. #sailing #sailboat #sailor

High vs. Low Aspect Ratio of a Sailboat Keel
High Aspect Ratio: Tall and narrow (deep fin keels on modern racing boats). They create less induced drag and point higher into the wind efficiently, but require more draft and exert higher leverage loads on the hull.
Low Aspect Ratio: Short and long (full keels on traditional cruising boats). They offer great directional stability and shallow draft options, but produce more drag and slip more sideways (leeway) under sail. #sailing #sailingschool #sailboat #sailor
