To find north using Cassiopeia, look high in the northern sky to locate the five bright stars that form a distinct "W" or "M" shape. Draw an imaginary line straight out from this central bend and extend it about five times the overall width of the constellation. This line will lead your eyes directly to Polaris, also known as the North Star.
