The beginning of our 3600 Mile Bluewater sail from Canary Islands to Brazil. We set off in winds up to 35 knots and surf big waves downwind under reefed sails while the autopilot is driving. It was all plan sailing until the skipper forgot to duck. The speed at which the boom crosses the boat during a gybe makes it a dangerous weapon.
