The forecast called for light wind and a gentle swell. That wasn't what we got! We were stuck under a squall line and the wind slowly built. I stopped filming when the rain came. Of course when we got onto the Bahamas bank the sun came out and the sea was smooth. With over 100 boats on the start line everyone was fighting for air shortly after the start, with the tide coming in all day it paid to get right early to find both clear air and some relief from the stronger tide out in the main channel. On the way back in the trick was to find the deepest part of the channel to ensure you were in maximum tide to increase your speed over ground. Things were still tight as we made it down to the Harbour Turning mark off Cork City.
