July is Sun Safe Boating Month, serving as a reminder to protect skin and eyes from the sun while boating. Consider keeping spare sunblock, sunglasses, and hats aboard your BENETEAU to ensure you can enjoy sun and surf for years to come. Learn more at http://sunsafeboating.com. -- About BENETEAU -- The first BENETEAU boats sailed from the shipyards of Croix-de-Vie over 140 years ago. Since that time, the BENETEAU brand has been synonymous with quality and innovation to all those who have taken to the water – first by the fishermen who made their livelihood from the sea and then by the legions of recreational boaters around the globe. Over the years, our commitment to innovating and embracing ideas, no matter how unconventional, has been at the forefront of who we are in order to bring you the best boat possible. BENETEAU was one of the first boatbuilders many years ago to use computer-aided design (CAD) as well as lighter, stronger composite building materials. We’ve also been at the cutting edge of using greener materials and processes to do our part in protecting the incredible world which we explore. However, all this innovation doesn’t mean we’ve turned our back on tradition. One thing we’ve discovered in over a century of boatbuilding is that new-world innovations work best with old-school craftsmanship. This combination has resulted in some of the most iconic sailboats and powerboats in the world – supremely seaworthy yachts renowned for their sense of style, luxury, and comfort along with their creative use of space and new technologies. -- Philosophy -- We’re a lot like you. We love the water in all its forms – the ocean, bays, lakes, and rivers. And we love sharing the boating lifestyle with our family and friends. This love manifests itself in every BENETEAU built in any one of our many manufacturing facilities worldwide. Every BENETEAU sailboat and powerboat on the water reflects the best efforts of the finest architects, designers, and craftsmen along with the highest quality materials and the latest innovations. When you purchase a BENETEAU, you become a valued member of our BENETEAU family. For this reason, our after-sale service is second to none as evidenced by the multitude of National Marine Manufacturers CSI Awards for Excellence in Customer Service. At the core of this outstanding service is our exceptional dealer network. Every one of our authorized BENETEAU dealers will be there for you – from choosing the right yacht to the handover and beyond. Your dealer will be your able guide when it comes to maintaining your boat properly and will help you maximize the return on your investment when it comes time to step up to another BENETEAU – and it usually does! We wouldn’t have it any other way. We go open ocean fishing on the Skeeter ZX22V. http://features.boats.com/boat-content/2013/06/skeeter-zx22v-bay-boat-blitzkrieg-2/ For more boat videos, visit www.boats.com. Off to port Catalina Island was a mere smudge on the horizon, on our starboard side the California coast slid by in a blur, and dead ahead calico bass were waiting to be caught. They wouldn't have long to wait, because the Skeeter ZX22V being captained by Ben Florentino of Coastal Charters boasted 225 Yamaha horses on the transom, and was hauling its load of anxious anglers to the fishing grounds at over 30-mph. If you think that doesn't sound very fast for this rig, you're right—cruising speed is closer to 40-mph and top-end breaks 50. But remember, we were in the open Pacific. In fact, it's a testament to the way this boat is designed and built that we could even think about making our 12 mile run to Florentino's favorite kelp beds with just 22 feet of LOA. Blasting through widely-spaced three foot waves the Skeeter felt rock-solid, thanks to construction touches like a single-piece deck constructed of sandwiched layers of PVC cross-linked foam and fiberglass. Aircraft-grade aluminum ties the stringers and transom together, distributing stress throughout the structure. Hatches—many with full-length piano hinges—are injection-molded to maximize strength while minimizing weight. Aluminum backing plates are laminated into the deck where the console's attached. Build a boat with these techniques on a 20-degree deadrise hull, add in a pair of concave reverse chines, then give it strakes plus a transom set-back, and you get a boat that feels like granite underfoot yet has the grace of a gray-hounding wahoo. As we ate through the Pacific there were no rattles, vibrations, or slams to speak of. You can see what I mean in this video, which was all shot in the open ocean.
