With that sun shinning, flat water and a gentle breeze it was easy for the J109 to Going to Red to cut close behind the sterns of a couple of Impala 28 who where locked in a close battle of their own. Judging the speed of both your own yacht and the yachts around you is key to every skippers race management as in many cases the closer you can get to yachts which are in other races and and often in the way the less ground you will give up to you competitors in your own race. Going to Red did not look back in this race and lead from start to finish in tricky conditions for the SLYC Regatta. With the wind flicking up and and down and from left to right for most of the afternoon the whole crew needed to be on their toes to ensure they keep the boat moving and in clear air.

Ragazzi, che giornata! O forse dovrei dire giornate! Sono successe talmente tante cose oggi che il reel è per forza dovuto durare di più. Ci siamo svegliati presto, siamo scesi a terra con il gommone e come prima cosa abbiamo fatto il check out per la partenza di domani. Domattina, insomma, dobbiamo lasciare le acque delle BVI per andare st Marteen. Fatto ciò chiediamo a un taxista quanto ci prendesse per portarci a un’escursione a 10 minuti di auto da lì. Il prezzo era lo stesso di un noleggio auto di un giorno. Beh, la scelta viene da sè. Noleggiamo un’auto e andiamo a fare un po’ di escursioni. Saliamo nelle parti più montane, se così possiamo definirle. Cerchiamo di cogliere anche l’aspetto più verde e meno blu di quest’isola. Il nostro cuore resta Comunque sempre colpito e affascinato dal mare anche visto dall’alto. Ci troviamo, non saprei spiegare come, a Sugarcane, un bellissimo ristorante che ha imbandito un buffet all you can eat per la giornata. Assaggiamo specialità locali con il sottofondo di buona musica e un ambiente davvero splendido. Un pranzo con i fiocchi. Pieni di cibo, ci alziamo da tavola, riprendiamo la macchina e facciamo l’ultimo sentiero della giornata, quello che porta a Devil’s bay, Un percorso bellissimo, paesaggio più desertico pieno di cactus, lucertoloni e paguri enormi. Ci fermiamo qualche minuto in spiaggia, ci rinfreschiamo e poi di corsa in barca a fare la doccia. Lasciamo la macchina a noleggio e corriamo a prepararci. Questa sera USCIAMO! Che cosa strana: un orario di incontro, altre persone che parlano italiano!!! Andiamo a bordo di “Andiamo”, la barca su cui vivono e lavorano Francesca e Matteo. Non ci conoscevamo, ci siamo scambiati messaggi qui su Instagram e questa sera siamo riusciti a incontrarci. Sempre bello conoscere storie nuove, sapere come altre due persone sono arrivate a passare la maggior parte del loro tempo su una casa galleggiante. Parliamo tanto, ci scambiamo le nostre esperienze in mare e non solo, promettendoci di reincontrarci da qualche parte.
