March 11 marks the anniversary of the 2011 earthquake, tsunami, and nuclear disaster in Japan. In the days after the disaster, I joined an early helicopter reconnaissance flight over the devastated coastline identifying communities needing immediate help and then supporting those communities and they rebuilt lives and restarted businesses. The destruction was almost impossible to comprehend. But what followed was equally powerful: communities rebuilding together. Day 9 of our Christmas calendar takes you into the first of two guest cabins aboard Vela! 🎄 This bunk bed cabin is perfect for accommodating one or two crew members. While it’s compact, it’s packed with smart storage: 👕 Two cabinets for clothing and personal items (we’re even upgrading one with shelves soon!). 📦 Under-bed storage: Currently home to ropes and sailing gear. 🔧 Under the floorboards: Housing our speed, depth, and sonar transducers—more on that in a future episode. The cabin might seem small but the bunks are wide, making them cozy for crew. Mickey H. met another couple at the Fountaine Pajot factory in La Rochelle whose dealer did not meet their expectations. Mickey's experience was smooth sailing with the Atlantic Cruising Yachts staff on the ground at the Fountaine Pajot factory guiding him every step of the way. --- "Another aspect of differentiating ACY from other dealers… when I was in La Rochelle I met another couple that bought a Saona 47. We got to talking and turns out their dealer: 1. Didn’t have a local rep, 2. Their dealer… essentially once they took possession of the boat in La Rochelle, the dealer was gone - didn’t support them at all. They had to hire a local representative, a local French person who was their rep, was their “Baptiste” - Baptiste being the ACY rep I had - They had to hire their own. And it caused them some frustration and some anxiety just trying to maneuver through the process. So that’s another benefit to ACY."
