At the Melges 20 World Championship, sailors hail from nine different countries across four continents. After racing, everyone swaps stories on the docks and at the social events at the Coconut Grove Sailing Club. The Melges 20 fleet boasts incredible, highly organized racing around the globe; 2019 is no exception. The Melges World League’s North American Division has welcomed new owners to the class this year and is fully energized for the upcoming 2019-2020 Miami Winter Series. Melges 20 Worlds will be in North America again in 2021. Before next year’s winter series kicks off, sailors will head to Europe for a summer circuit of great Melges World League racing across six events organized by Melges Europe. The MWL Asian Division is in full action in Japan with regular racing and five sanctioned regattas organized by Melges Japan on a backdrop of Mount Fuji. We are heading out for an overnight sail in the Marquesas Islands of French Polynesia. Holly and Ray have been #sailing together since 2020 on their #catamaran, Sabado. They have sailed the East Coast of the United States, the Bahamas, the Caribbean, and now the Pacific! They’re documenting #boatlife and their experiences as #liveaboard sailors. Subscribe to tag along on the adventure!
BayCruiser 21 The smallest boat among the nominees is also the most versatile: with the ballast centreboard and rudder raised, the British boat with its cuddly retro look is just 25 centimetres deep and can therefore be slipped in shallow shore areas. Thanks to the carbon rig with Dyneema shrouds, setting the mast is also easy. If the 400 litre water ballast tank remains empty, the BayCruiser has a very good power-to-weight ratio (sail carrying capacity 5.2). Hull length: 6.01 m; overall length: 6.01 m; waterline length: 5.67 m; width: 2.18 m; draught: 0.25-1.50 m; weight/with water ballast: 0.6/1.0 t; sail area: 19.0 m2; STZ/m. Water ballast: 5.2/4.4; Price: 39,210 euros.
