► Cruise in Multihulls World Special Issue Power N21: https://www.multihulls-world.com/articles-catamaran-trimaran/ibiza-barcelona-300-nautical-miles-on-a-leen-56 ► Full test in Multihulls World Special Issue N16: https://www.multihulls-world.com/review/motor/leen-56-welcome-aboard-an-ocean-going-vessel ► 300 nm aboard one of the very rare motor trimarans on the market NEEL Trimarans, born in 2009, can claim to be the only manufacturer to offer large production trimarans - 30 units are produced every year. This new brand of powered trimarans called LEEN (a clever reflection of Neel, being named after the owner and founder of the yard, Eric Bruneel). The first model launched (before the 72 and now the very new the 51) is therefore the LEEN 56, characterized by the two floats significantly shorter at the bows compared to the central hull, and by a platform of large surface-area, topped by an imposing flybridge. The advantage of these new ocean-going multihulls is their very low drag: consumption will be limited to 2 liters (just over ½ US gal) per mile at cruising speed (9 knots). The diesel engine in the central hull can be supported by two electric pods - one in each hull - to facilitate maneuvering in port and for leaving an anchorage with the greatest discretion. We were able to sail aboard hull #2 for 300 miles from Ibiza to Barcelona. ► TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS Builder: LEEN Trimarans Architects: Nivelt and Frutschi Overall length: 56’1” (17.10 m) Beam: 27’1” (8.25 m) Draft: 4’3” (1.30 m) Light displacement: 48,500 lbs (22 t) Water: 215 US gal (825 l) Fuel: 1,520 US gal (6,000 l) Motor: 305 HP Cruising speed: 9/10 knots Max speed: 11.5 knots Cabins: 3 to 6 CE Certification: A ► Become a FREE SUBSCRIBER to Multihulls World's YouTube page now - https://www.youtube.com/c/MultihullsWorld ► Log on to our website to discover over 500 multihulls tests! Possibly the most memorable video we have ever produced was on board UNBRIDLEDz the Caotain at the time was GUI Garcia, and together with his wife Cathryn they were passionate scuba divers. They actually had their wedding ceremony underwater! 🦈🦈🦈🦈🦈 Learning to dive with Gui and Cathryn was a privilege, and they quickly gave me the confidence to swim with sharks at Danger Point in the Bahamas. To get my mind prepared, I thought about walking through a field with dogs in it. It’s true that one may bite you, but it’s unlikely and as long as you leave them alone you’ll be Ok. 😁 The current Captain of Unbridled, Liam Devlin is an equally impressive character. Passionate about his work and with a keen awareness of the power of social media I have enjoyed interviewing both Liam and the owner for a podcast series.
